It’s been about three weeks and I could not for the life of me find my parents’ house key and alarm clicker. I knew I had it to be somewhere, but I looked everywhere. It usually sits on the left side of my glove compartment. Maybe not the best idea to keep it in the car, but I don’t think anyone, upon finding it, would know what it was for. Plus, that way I can leave the engine running while also grabbing the mail if anyone else happens to be in the car when I pass by.
So I looked everywhere. Pockets of clothes, every drawer in the house, around the laundry room. Searched the glove compartment. It’s just gone.
But I don’t want to tell my parents. So? I have been using a second key I have, and doing the alarm at the keypad. I was sure it’d turn up. It never did.
Parked outside their house, I decided maybe I didn’t search the glove compartment well enough. Looked again, taking stuff out this time. lol and behold, it’s been in there the entire time.
I felt stupid for having misplaced it in the same place I always keep it (albeit on the wrong side and not in its usual spot). But then I felt smart for not making myself look stupid by confessing.
All things have been restored to the proper balance.

The Earth just tilted back by 1.007 millionth of a degree in the right direction. I’m 99% sure the current heat wave was caused by that key being on the wrong side of my glove compartment.

A couple of years ago Mrs Ayns misplaced her keys. After looking in all the obvious places (purse, handbag etc.) we started looking in the less obvious places and finally started looking *everywhere* we thought they could possibly be; fridge, oven, washing machine, freezer, rubbish bins etc. About 4 hours later she checked her handbag again ... and there they were

Good thing you didn’t tell your parents. It was only two years ago that they deemed you grown up and responsible.

Lock had long since been changed. But there they were, sitting amongst the laundry, which was my daughter’s clothes and none of which were owned at the time they were lost.

On another occasion, about 15 years ago I was going on holiday and decided I should hide my spare set of car keys somewhere in the house. I remember thinking “no one will ever find them here” and sure enough, 15 years and 5 cars later, I’ve never found them

That happens to me all the time. Only the object will be in plain view when it turns up. Lose keys the last place I remember them is on the kitchen counter. I completely clean and wipe down the counter. Walk to another room and return. The keys are on the counter.
I lost my belt the other day, had my granddaughter help me look for it. Found it where I left it, on the pants I was currently wearing.

I do appreciate your meeting with them about me. Keeps me on my toes. We don't need to meet with them -- they check in here every day. Their screen name is Gato.

Stuff like that drives me crazy. Have been times I have looked where I eventually find it but did not see it. LOL What really bugs me is putting something where I know it will be safe (but not in the normal place) and then forgetting where that safe place is. I have learned not to do that and just put things back in the same place

LOL What really bugs me is putting something where I know it will be safe (but not in the normal place) and then forgetting where that safe place is. I have learned not to do that and just put things back in the same place I was almost 100% sure that is what I did with my parents’ key. The glove compartment was the absolute last place I thought it would be.

A few years I got a new car, and as always had a spare key cut just in case I lost my keys when I was out. Found a good spot underneath the car to attach it to. After three or four years I had the thought "I should just check to see if that spare key is still attached to the car." So i got under the car and looked where I thought I had put it. Nope not there. looked in other likely places. No not there, it must have come loose and fallen off. So I got another key cut and again, got underneath car and found a good spot to put it. Right where the orginal key was.
