All of my on line sources are out of stock...unless I want to buy 1,000 rds....that's a tough choice to make...I usually try to keep around 300 rds. of each..22 mag, .380 and 9...
However, there is a local pawn shop/gun store in town that always has ammo...but it's pricey...with FMJ running around $25 a box for 50......but at least they have it...
I haven't seen a thread on this and I'm curious about the rest of you

I stopped by Academy Sports the other day and as luck would have it they just received a small shipment of Remington 9mm FMJ and some Hornady Black. I bought a box of each. No .380 ammo for my pocket popper LCP. I'm fairly well stocked on FMJ ammo but would like to increase my defensive ammo.
Not being familiar with the local shops yet I find it alarming how many aren't answering phones or rolling to full voicemail boxes.

Try this: gunbot.net/I just did a quick random check and the 22WMR was out of stock, even tough gunbot states in stock. But I only checked 3 places.

If you listen to the news media, all you have to do in NYC to find it is step outside your door.

There aren’t supply issues so much as increased demand. It’s getting to the shops. It just doesn’t stay long.

Its getting to the shelves in lesser amounts and most places are limiting how much can be purchased.
This sounds familiar.

My son is actually getting more, these days. Shelves are still emptying quickly.
Same with guns of all types.

It's in very short supply around my parts. I did happen to be in the local Rural King about a week and a half ago and they had just gotten in a shipment of ammo, but mostly for shotgun. I rooted through the yet-to-be opened boxes on a cart and found some 9mm. No 45 or .380, but 2,000 rounds of 9mm with no purchase limit. I bought 400 rounds at $14 per box of 50. They had about 10 small crates of 556 at $800 plus tax for 1,600 rounds. Went back the next day and all 9mm was sold out and only four crates of 556 remaining. I have plenty of 556 and wouldn't have paid that price anyway. Over the weekend, my local gun store (the biggest in Ky.) had about 15 50-round boxes of 9mm with a one per customer limit. I bought my one box and the last two 50-round boxes of 9X18 for my makarov (no limit on 9X18). Sent my wife in the next day because she was going to be in the area to pick up another 50-round box of 9mm and they were sold out. That store, like Rural King, had very little pistol or rifle ammo of any caliber. 45 acp is nonexistent here, as well as 22, .380, .38 and just about every other pistol ammo except for some 40 cal. And there's very little 556/223. You probably ought to buy it if you see it reasonable.

I’ve noticed online sources and local big box stores like academy are typically either out or very limited on 9mm and 5.56x45mm but my local gunsmith has maintained good supply. 1 box per customer per caliber per day limit but he always has 100rnd white box winchester 9mm and 500, 1000, and 2000 rnd cans of 5.56.

I stocked up between 2010 and 2013. I have not had to buy ammo in years.
I'll probably die of old age and there will still be crates left for my heirs and assigns to fight over.
'Long as they don't shoot each other in the process.

I stocked a few months back, so I have not been looking. When I was buying it took a bit of effort to find what I was after but it was not bad. I am glad I did it then or I would have to hang around outside mfitz's door.

My son is actually getting more, these days. Shelves are still emptying quickly. Same with guns of all types. the pawn shop/gun store in my town has a pretty good stock of 9's, shot guns, .22's but no .380's...and its been that way for quite awhile...I guess I should feel lucky..;-0

The problem with most street ammo is you need reloading supplies to use it.

I can find aluminum case 9mm FMJ for inflated prices if I look hard enough, I can't find hollowpoints at all.
Oddly enough .22lr doesn't seem to be in short supply, and that was the one most affected by the last ammo panic.

If you set up an account, pick the calibers you're interested in, and when one of the retailers gets a shipment, gunbot will send you an email with a direct link to the shells.

I imagine some people are willing to go the extra mile for ammo these days.
I was coming back from the range the other day and stopped for gas. I had left a few boxes of S&W 40-cal on the passenger seat, and I think the woman getting gas next to me saw them because she walked around my car and approached me and said in a discrete voice, "um...would you be willing to trade some hanky-panky for a couple of boxes of ammo?" I eyeballed her up and down, and after a few seconds of consideration replied, "That would depend on what calibers you have."

Haven't looked too much, I'm pretty stocked up.
That said, I needed some 7.62x25 because I wanted to take my Tokarev to the range, and it took a couple months of waiting and searching to find it in stock. It's since disappeared again.
PSA: Cheaper Than Dirt is not cheaper than dirt. In fact they should rename the company "Gouging Prices at Will" or something.
I personally witnessed them DOUBLE the price of a box of Tokarev. Ridiculous. I won't ever use them again unless I have no other options. I really hope they go out of business for that kind of behavior, but I doubt that will happen with all of the panic buying goobers.

It's normal summmer demand mixed with the insanity of COVID and civil unrest. 9mm is up a hundred bucks a case or so at this point, when you can find it.
I have a steady supply but some new shooters I've been teaching have winced at the prices as have I!

The thing that ticks me off about these ammo panics is when it's over and supply is plentiful again the prices never go back down to where they were pre-panic. It's always just a little higher.

I buy .22LR by the case from targetsportsusa.com for around $270/1000 plus free shipping (when it's in stock, which it's not right now), and there's 7 reloading presses down in the basement...
So, no.

I have so much factory ammo now that I couldn't possibly shoot it up in the years I have left on this earth. And I have reloading components for over 30,000 rounds of center fire pistol calibers, including 32 S&W Long, 9mm, .38 Special, 357 Magnum, 40 S&W, 10mm, 41 Magnum, 44 Special, 44 Magnum, and 45ACP.
I have been a shooter and reloader for over 45 years.
In October of 2018 I joined the Prime Ammo club at TargetSportsUSA for $95 for one year. That membership gave me an extra 8% discount off their everyday low prices and shipping was free, for one box or ten cases. For the next 12 months I spent between $500 and $1000 a month buying case quantities of the above calibers (plus .223 Remington, and 12 gauge shotgun (00buckshot and rifled slugs) in defensive/hunting configurations (no bulk range ammo). I hadn't seen prices so low in years throughout the term of my membership so I bought it cheap and stacked it deep. In October of 2019 I realized I had plenty of ammo so I did not renew my membership. Little did I know (and who could have foreseen) that prices were about to go ballistic shortly after the new year. It was just dumb luck that I timed it right and scored some great deals over that one year of very low prices and now I'm pretty much set for life in the factory ammo department. I feel for people looking to buy now because there just isn't much out there at decent prices in the popular calibers.

I won't have anything to do with them. I still have a lot of ammo as I don't get to the range much these days between my cancer treatment and the whole COVID thing.
