With Covid all the rage, my wife and I tend to be more bunkered down than many others. So, instead of wandering into public to get my HRDx serviced (it has bad jacks, and who knows what else), I figured I'd do a little on-line shopping. I'm not into SS or modeling amps, but I figured to practice around the house - what does it really matter? I was curious about Katana by Boss, and Sweetwater had a nice price on a Katana 50 MKII, so I figured I'd give it a try. After the proper quarantine period I'll unbox it and give it a go. I'm not really one to fiddle around with programing and settings and all that goes into messing with one of these...but with spending so much time at home I suppose I can learn. I'm thinking YouTube will be my friend.

Congrats! I was tempted to get a Katana 100 head, but decided on a Marshall Origin 50 instead.
But I have a Katana Mini, which is an awesome little practice amp. I installed a speaker jack- amazing thru a 2x12.

I recently bought a Katana Air. It's a lot of fun.I can get a decent dirty Marshall tone and it's fun to play along to mmusic via bluetooth.

I like my first generation 50 for practice at home. I can get decent cleans and crunch but the high gain is gritty. It'll never be mistaken for a tube amp but it gets the job done at a good price.

I recently got a used Katana 100 Mk1 and very impressed with tone and easy tweakability.

I finally got to mess around with the new amp. My initial impressions were: hmmm...sounds like a solid state amp...Lots of treble - too much, actually, for my taste...difficult to navigate and dial in a tone I like (but that's likely because I didn't know what I was doing).
Later impressions - I'm warming up to it...went to Youtube to get some instruction. I was able to dial in a nice high gain sound I like. I was able to figure out the delay setting...The amp is growing on me.
It's not that I would have been totally disappointed if I couldn't get a setting I liked...after all, I bought it as a practice amp.

I've read the MK II is considerably brighter than the original.

If you connect your Katana to PC, laptop or tablet with USB Printer style cable download the associated drivers and Boss Tone Studio software for MKII you have tons more tweeks you can do plus easily upload user tone profiles people have made you will love it a lot more. I like it because I can sit at my computer and tweak on the fly while playing etc.

I found a nice clean sound I really like. Odd, but the clean channel is MUCH quieter than the other settings. But I found that if you turn the gain knob, it gives it a nice boost.

Yes, thus the reason for me to mainly use the clean channels.

It will do pretty much whatever you want if you tweak it - it's basically an amplified GT-100, and I love my GT-100 still!

Love my GT-100 enough still that I took advantage of the 48 month cup of coffee Katana financing at Sweetwater.
One inbound!

I thought about it too.
Like I need another amp.

I don't *need* one, but I want one and it lets me leave the GT-100 in my office.

I bought myself a Katana 100 for my 60th birthday last May. I played 3 gigs with it when we were allowed out of lockdown in September, and I absolutely loved it, but I haven't even switched it on since then :-( For some reason, I found myself looking at multi-effects units tonight, but reverendrob's posts have reminded me that I don't need one, as the Katana already has it all.

No, you DO need a multi effects unit! You really do!

I have the Artist model and also use a pedalboard for my effects. I run them through the effects loop for the clean channel and have set up two separate channels for distortion and boosted distortion to punch through for leads. I like having the pedalboard because I'm mostly a rhythm guitar player but do occasional leads. The amp has a lot of functions but use it mostly for an amplifier platform. I'm not much of a software tweaker and have set up a couple of channels for the pedals that I don't own. DejaVibe and Octave are decent effects on the amp and use them from it. Otherwise, it's a really great amp and am quite happy with how it performs and sounds. PS: I did change my speaker to the EMI Texas Heat. Really dynamic cleans and wider overall tonal spectrum. It was a great choice for this amp!
