Was playing the EB3 recently and, as I occasionally do, changed to setting 4 on the varitone switch.
The subterranean rumble is fun for a minute or two but then as always I am frightened of damaging the amp and speaker and I retreat back to my normal setting.
Has anyone ever used this setting when playing live
Are there any recordings which were made using this setting ?

I used it a bit when I played through a Sound City 120 head. Because the 120 was voiced for guitar and not bass it gave more more bottom.
As far as damaging things in those days I had to redone my speakers every year or so due to voice coil or voice coil lead damage to my JBLs or Altec Landings. Probably a lot of that was playing four sets seven nights a week 350-365 days a year.

Probably a lot of that was playing four sets seven nights a week 350-365 days a year. Those speakers sound really good (some of the best tone I have had)but have a very short Xmax (voice coil extended travel 2-4mm) they would bottom out on me so I had to watch the low end. Because of that I started using Eminence that have 6-9mm of travel depending on the speaker.
