Had a store credit at my favorite pawn/music shop in town so I go in on a regular basis to see what's new. They have had good buys in the past. So I see this lucite Strat hanging on the wall and just had to check it out. The brand, Galveston, was totally unknown to me or the guys at the store. It was as heavy as I expected it to be - almost 12 lbs. Plugged it in and played it a bit. Not too bad, pickups kind of thin sounding, neck playable. The owner wanted it gone, so he came down from $250 to $175. Used my credit (and got a few bucks back), and lugged it home. I could upgrade pickups and electronics, but that would cost more than I paid for it, so I'll likely leave it as is. It's not something I'd gig with or even bring to a jam, but that acrylic body looks so cool, it will look great in my music room.

I have heard of them. Never touched one. I agree, would buy it at that price just to mess with it. Who knows, might be a great platform or a wall hanger.

I've seen those Galvestons in shops. You could install a Fender neck and some good electronics and get your Nile Rodgers on! In the early 80s I had an Ampeg Dan Armstrong; an appropriate name because it weighed more than 12 lbs.
If I saw one of these cheepie see-throughs in a shop today, I would buy it and turn it into a wall-mounted light for the studio.

You could use lights for the binding.

One part of me wants to replace the neck and the electronics and make it a real player. The other part says, hey, do you really want to put a few hundred $$$ into a $175 guitar? Still on the fence there. But then I like the idea of lighting her up too.

I have one of those, if you want to know how NOT to put lights in it, I can help. I’m less than useless if you want professional advice.

Wow, mtracy, your guitar has plexi pickguard and neck! I don't think I'll be installing lights yet, but I am going to replace the neck on mine and the electronics as well. After playing it for 2 hours while standing yesterday, the weight was tolerable, but the high action and shrill pickups were not. The clear body gets such positive reactions from everybody. So I'll do the upgrades and make it a good player to boot.
