CDN USA pop soda honour honor Where and when I grew up (north Louisiana), it was neither pop nor soda. It was "Coke." Even if it was a Pepsi or Dr. Pepper.

Yeah, I ran into that while driving down to Florida back in 1990. "What kind of Coke do you want?". I was really confused. Also, ordered huge burger, fries, pie and a Coke and she looked at me and said "What else?"

Friend of mine who used to live down South told me. “Can I have a Coke?” “What kind?” “Sprite.” What the hell??

I love "eavestrough". There's something very Anglo-Saxon about it. Not that the Anglo-Saxons had gutters, but they did combine words to make composites. The best known example is probably "word hoard" (wordhord) in Beowulf, meaning the language itself, or the poet's store of precious words. The composites can then lead to metaphors, such as the idea of the poet "unlocking" the word hoard. Less poetically, we get "nostrils" from the Anglo-Saxon "nosthirls" (nose holes). Sorry to digress.

When it comes to printed circuit boards, what we called the "pattern" for an electronic component on the circuit board, folks from Vancouver, BC, called a "decal", pronounced "deck-el".
That was very confusing at first. We were a bunch of Americans looking around at each other like "what the hell is a deck-el?"

Now my Canuvian buddy Lorne from the GWN calls a Chimney a "Chimblee", but that could just be him due to an old hockey injury.

CDN USA gallon (5 quarts) gallon (4 quarts) Canadian gallons were always 4 quarts. The Canadian quart being 40 oz. vs. 32 oz. is the difference. Further confusing matters is that US ounces and Imperial ounces are ever so slightly different.
