Before anyone encourages me to dial up the suicide hotline, what my thread title refers to is the new Netflix movie, "I'm Thinking of Ending Things."
It was sold to me as a "different kind of horror movie". I guess it's supposed to get the brain juices flowing, like the sequence at the end of "2001: A Space Odyssey."
At 2:14 hours it is definitely a time commitment. Right up front, I'll state that the watching the film makes you uncomfortable; you get that odd feeling from the beginning that something just isn't right. It's like sitting in a recliner where you can't get comfortable, no matter how you change position.
Odd things happen. A lot. You get pummeled by the timeline and seemingly random pieces of information (remember the title of that book on the shelf, there will be a test later!)
Charlie Kaufman, who is responsible for extracting the 2+ hours I'll never get back, says that he's "not big on explaining things." Obviously.
Combing the internet for answers, I found a couple of reviewers who cautioned that "you have to watch the film at least twice to pick up on the clues. And reading the book can only help."
To me, it was like watching a faulty VHS of someone else's nightmare.
My view: if you have to explain and dissect a joke for the audience, maybe stand up isn't your schtick. And if you produce a "horror movie" where the viewers have to break up into discussion groups at the end, to argue about "the meaning," then maybe you should take a crack at writing those long winded prescription warnings that accompany TV ads for drugs. Those are confusing too.

Are you saying we need a sub-forum for the masterpiece?

I tried to watch this the other night; got through about 20 minutes, and had to back out in search of something else. Too slow-paced and cerebral for me; I enjoyed the two-season "Punisher" series -- hoping for a third....

Added a bit to your title because I just had a mini panic attack thinking I needed to talk someone off the ledge.

Added a bit to your title because I just had a mini panic attack thinking I needed to talk someone off the ledge. Ahhhhh ... so my attention grabbing thread title worked! Aren't you glad I wasn't writing about this other actual movie, " I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meathook, and Now I Have a Three Picture Deal at Disney." www.imdb.com/title/tt0166222/?ref_=ttls_li_tt

Now I thought that he was wanting to end things on Netflix - for all to see.
Kinda like a really dark reveal party.
