Hi,
(while it is not so crowded here in the acoustic corner… ) I can get one of those Fender Malibu SCE DickDale models relatively cheap, but will have to pick it up 200km one way… that's about 4hrs driving round, and I have read very different takes on that guitar. I really think I'm going to like the neck, I'm not too sure about the acoustic-only sound due to the smaller body, but hope that this is a good go-to guitar for the occasional gig when it needs to be plugged-in.
Any experiences or tips anyone?
cheers, Tom

I've played a couple in shops - not really any different from the non-signature guitars with similar stats... which means it sounds below average as an acoustic; if you can plug it in the sound can be tweaked enough to make it usable.

… if you can plug it in the sound can be tweaked enough to make it usable. thanks for the info. I hoped (or fell for the marketing) that the "all Mahagony" would somehow compensate for the smaller body.
Well, I guess I need to play and hear it for myself. The particular guitar has been played a lot, so maybe there's some mojo added :-)

Well, I guess I need to play and hear it for myself. The particular guitar has been played a lot, so maybe there's some mojo added :-) Speaking of mojo (yes I went and fetched the guitar… ) - this poor thing has lived for years in one these rehearsal rooms were the odor of stale beer and cold smoke lingers… plus, the previous owner was of the smoking kind. So while the fretboard after some rounds of scrubbing and polishing with lem-oil looked like new again, and the rest of the guitar shines after a thorough cleaning and polish, there's the bad smell lingering inside the body, and wafting out of the opening when playing. I put a towel with some lem-oil apllied to it in the body, but that only added a layer upon the smell of old ashtray. Currently I have a bag with ground coffee in there… curious if/how this will work out.
Other than that, this is a great little guitar. As was expected, the acoustic-only sound cannot compare with a full-size guitar. but the small body and the strat-like neck make it very comfortable and fun to play, even with .12s and higher up on the neck. And the "surf red" color is very nice - it looks like candy apple red, but without the metallic sparkle.
