If you get the chance, watch this PBS show. There is some interesting info in it how we can be programmed to purchase.

PBS shows some good documentaries. Unfortunately it seems the best ones include an hour long beg-a-thon between segments. When that happens I usually bail at the first break.
Hacking Your Mind sound interesting. I'm going to seek it out and record it so if there are breaks I can edit them out before watching. Thanks for the tip.

If enough people enjoying "free" public TV and radio would pony up, the stations wouldn't have to periodically extend their tin cups.
But the refrain seems to be, "let someone else pay for it."

I found the show interesting as you see how television and then the internet and Facebook become more and more influential. According to the show, Pepsi wins in a blind taste test, but Coke is the big seller thanks to the programming of our minds. The political influence of Facebook is also pretty interesting.

Insidious I'd say.
I try to stay away from commercial programming and social media as possible. Mostly watching Prime, Netflix and Youtube stuff these days, but even then Youtube is becoming more and more laced with commercials.
I guess they don't call it "commercial programming" for nothing.

So true. Our local PBS station had fund raisers a few times a year. I'd donate sporadically; apparently there weren't many of us . The station folded a couple of years ago; no more live news broadcasts, convenient show-watching, local content, etc. I can get "PBS" via my Roku and watch any/all national broadcasted shows, but I miss just tuning in.... I put a omni-directional antenna high up in my hip roof attic, but I could not get any other PBS station.

I looked up the show and it's an hour long series, not a documentary like I assumed. My local stations show 4 episodes on their schedules so I will be recording them.. The show descriptions sound interesting.

In the same vein as this series...
The Netflix doc: The Social Dilemma
A great look under the hood of social media.

I never finished The Social Dilemma. Honestly, I questioned why Netflix would paint such an ugly pic of it all when they are part of the club. I started to feel the goal was to overwhelm us with the total awesomeness of technology+social media, surrender and bow before the Oracles of the new gods.
Maybe I'll take my meds and finish watching. 🤪

There are some important points I wanted to better-absorb with the second watch.
