It's time to replace the batteries in my XPower 1500 Portable Household Unit. (Power inverter) The instruction manual says, "if you do not know how to safely remove and install higher amperage batteries, have this task performed by a qualified service technician." This thing has three 12 volt batteries all nestled together (see pics in the link) with bundles of red and black wires. Looks straight forward, but I generally circle around electrical problems warily, like most folks would a suspected quicksand pit. www.alpharubicon.com/prods/xpower1500dem.htmAmong the safety recommendations: "Have someone near enough to hear your voice or come to your aid." "Wear eye protection, clothing protection, have supplies of baking soda on hand." "Dropping a metal tool onto the battery may cause a short circuit or explosion." Not quite the same as popping a battery in and out of my VW bug. I'm thinking of taking the unit down to my local Batteries R Us shop and let them handle the job in case CPR is needed.

Who would have thunk it. Went down to the battery place with schematics for the thing and they're gonna do the battery replacement for only the price of the batteries. So I won't have to remove lebenty billion screws and put Fire Med on stand by.
