I was listening, as I often do, to Rush Limbaugh on the radio.
I had some thoughts rolling around in my head, so I sat down and sent a email to the show.
The show went to commercial and as soon as they came back they brought up my email. Took like two or three minutes from when I sent it.
Pretty shocking in a positive way.

He probably has 10 college kids sitting in a closet scanning incoming emails/tweets/instagrabs for issues that fit the day's agenda.
Very common for this sort of programming.

I called the show once, way back in the very early days, and he took my short question on the air. I don't even remember what it was about it was so long ago. I was a fan early on but no so much later.

I started listening back in 1987 when I lived in So. Cal. He was on in the afternoon as I drove home. I had no idea who he was, really nobody did then, but I knew he was articulating what I was thinking ... often times framing it better than I could myself.
As he began speaking today after the "obscene profit break" he says, "I just received a communication from a friend with a great legal mind".
Typical entertaining Rush verbiage.
Then he goes into what I was suggesting. I was shocked because I figured I was just sending an email into oblivion. Then in just a couple of minutes, literally less than three he was on it. Unbelievable that it even made it to him and then that it turned that fast.

I listen to him daily. But not every minuet.
I once sent an email to G.Gorden Liddy's show. I got a Tee shirt which told me he read it on air and answered. It was about .45 ammo VS 9mm. Unfortunately I didn't hear his reasoning's.
I might have heard your e mail today. But Rush is usually background noise.
Is it on his open website transcript?

Not sure about "open website transcript" but if that is a direct transcript of the show it would be on there. He made reference to it several times during the remainder of the show today. It had to do with voting "present". I'll leave it at that in attempt to keep this thread Moe's 2.0 friendly.

I read the transcript:
"brilliant friend, a brilliant legal mind and friend"
There ya go...something else to add to your resumé lol
Good point, too.

"brilliant friend, a brilliant legal mind and friend" JDC, that sounds better than how I remember it. Granted he was past that before I realized he was onto my suggestion. I had ZERO expectation it would mean anything to anyone.

This thread is about the OP's surprise/joy in having contacted a radio show that he listens to and having his e-mail read on the air. The OP takes no political position in this thread. His comment could equally have been made if he had happened to be listening to Rachel Maddow or Howard Stern.
The mere fact that Rush Limbaugh exists is not "hot button". The fact that he has strong personal politics that lean one way doesn't render him unmentionable. We all know his politics, but they were not mentioned here. If knowing someone's personal politics despite the fact that they were not discussed here was a reason not to mention someone, we would have to kick out half of our membership. ]
We are not going to turn this into a political post when the OP specifically avoided doing so. This thread is about the OP's surprise/disbelief that his e-mail was read on the radio almost instantly.
Let's talk about that.

I clicked on it instantly. While I knew you were joking, it wouldn't have surprised me if someone had a shaved squirrel website and the link was real. instead, I learned you can Google a picture of a shaved squirrel, because of curse you can. Shaved Squirrel - Comments on picture are NSFW

About 18(?) years ago I found that he was becoming increasingly difficult to listen to, literally. He seemed to be yelling all the time, without the modulations of tone and humor which made him entertaining. It turned out that was developing hearing loss caused by a Vicoden addiction. It can severely damage the inner ear, ultimately leading to him getting a cochlear implant. In retrospect it makes sense- gradual loss of hearing leading to headphone volume creep in a vicious cycle. I assume that the implant helped.

I've lost track ... did Rush ever kick his hillbilly heroin addiction? My understanding is yes, he got himself of the OxiContin years ago. Suffered hearing loss and has Cochlear Implant to hear. He was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and has been receiving treatment for that ... of course. It seems all the money, notoriety and fame in the World does not exempt one from the human condition.

In SoCal every other AM station has a talk radio format. Some take call-ins or at least have open line Fridays. As its a very competitive market down at the bottom of the ratings are a handful of stations that draw about 5 listeners per hour. One of the more popular talk show hosts use to answer complaints from listeners that when ever they called in they could not get through. He told them to call "Fred" over at K*** and tell him they really enjoyed his show because when ever they called they always got right on the air.
I use to enjoy radio talk shows but over the years most have evolved into extended monologues by the host with just one or two listener calls an hour.

The vast majority of talking heads invite guests on then ramble on incessantly. Just once I'd like to hear someone say "Oh, I'm sorry, was there a question? I forgot I was being interviewed."

Funny, before I read this I was considering sending an email to Colin Cowherd (national sports talk guy). Seems the guy can't go 5 minutes without working LaBron James into the discussion...which was why I stopped listening to him many years ago before I finally got onboard again. But I figured he'd either 1) not read it; or 2) he would just spout off about how talking about LaBron and all the big stars is what sells. So I didn't bother.

It is a pretty cool thing to hear your comments voiced on a radio show. Several weeks ago I sent a message to the text line of the morning radio show that I've listened to for about twenty years; it is based out of Sacramento, CA and is available on an AM station here in Las Vegas. Anyway, like Larry, I sent the text right before a commercial break, and when the show returned a few minutes later, one of the hosts read it on-air and talked about it for a few minutes.

"Pretty wild and hard to believe." Yup -- that pretty much summarizes all of talk radio. No matter who it is you're listening to.

I've waited my turn to go on a couple of talk shows. Just had to remember to scramble for the phone and switch off "speaker" when my time came.
