It’s awful news, my heart and prayers go out to you. However I think it’s essential to accept it and move on, keeping a positive, optimistic outlook. You’ve taken a blow, but it aint a KO just yet. Look at this as just a bump in the road that’s leading to a future of good health. It’s a shame that you might never be cancer free, but that’s a very different thing than a terminal diagnosis. While there’s life there’s hope, and your best chance is to grit your teeth and grasp on to whatever treatment options maximise that chance. Try to draw strength from the power of the love that surrounds and supports you, and keep an open heart and mind as you enter the next round of this fight.

Mike, I’ve been to that edge, much different circumstances, we all have the same feelings and fears. It’s not clear how we pull through the obstacles, yet we do, more often than can be explained by science or medicine. It’s also not about our will, or the things that anchor us. Still, things we can’t understand, or explain seem to work on our behalf.
My guess would be faith, and serenity, or maybe just a positive constitution. As fragile as life may seem, it is actually a very powerful force, as mentioned by our friends here.
You’re in my prayers Michael.

I’m so sorry to hear this.
pdf64 put it really well.
I would add that those ukes aren’t going to play themselves.
The only sort of hangin’ you should be doing is of the tough variety. Not the ‘in there’ variety.
I look forward to many more posts from you - even the boring ones😀

I’m sad to say I found evidence that Mike passed away sometime late March or early April. I’ve searched a few times for news, but today found notice that probate was filed on 4/3.
Rest In Peace, Mike. You were a great shooting and guitar buddy.

I had hoped to find a secondary source, but it does appear that MJB has lost his battle. Very sad to hear it, especially after the good news. RIP brother.

I had been thinking of him lately, so sorry that he lost this battle. I think both he and I moved to Florida around the same time and I enthusiastically followed his settling into retirement. RIP MJB.

I went back and read the whole thread. The news was up and down. It's sad to hear this and I hope his family finds some comfort. The conversation here is sobering.

I have a friend of some 40+ years locally who has also been battling "the big C". He was diagnosed not long after the COVID mess started. I corresponded with him and told him I'd like to do whatever I could to help, but neither of us had been able to get vaccinated at that point, so anything involving physical proximity was pretty much out of the question, especially since he'd undergone surgery and chemo, which didn't exactly boost his immune system. The chemo made him feel ill and exhausted and, in addition, I think he also was embarrassed to be seen in a weakened state by others and afraid that the sympathy of friends might degenerate into pity.
Dealing with such a dire disease is terrifying and disorienting for anyone who becomes so afflicted, but having to do so with this pandemic piled on top has obviously got to compound the challenge. Battling a potentially fatal illness is already socially isolating: doing so during pandemic lockdown makes it that much more so.
