But am clueless about what is available. I'd like a carved top, P90s, binding on the body and neck.
When I search on reverb, I get too many replies to sift through them.
TIA.

Sounds like you want a Standard model. The Studios and Tributes don't have binding on the body or neck.
But I gotta say--bang for buck, the Tribute series is killer. All the Les Paul tone and playability without the gingerbread and the price that goes with it. They are available with thin 60s necks and fat 50s necks.

The original Les Paul guitar from 1952 had P90s ...
They got it right the first time ...

I've got an Historic LP and my 2013 Studio Deluxe II is every bit as great as the overpriced Historic. The no binding on the body actually looks great. The top is pretty nice too: The neck is great, it plays and sounds amazing, best buy in a Gibson Les Paul I've ever made. Cost me only $865 with hard case. The specs: 2 push pull volume controls for a 10-dB boost/coil splitting. Takes a 9V battery for the boost. True bypass: disengages boost completely removes active circuit, ensuring pure Les Paul tone. 490R pickup in neck position, BurstBucker Pro pickup in bridge position '60s-style neck shape Book-matched, carved flame maple top 1 piece mahogany neck 1 piece mahogany body Grover tuners Vintage Sunburst Gloss nitro finish hard shell case

I'd like to put in a quick word for the Eastman SB56. Cost-wise, it sits between the Tribute and Standards from what I see on Reverb, but the quality is outstanding. Huge bang for the buck.

I looked around and it appears the only Tributes they're selling new now with P90s are LP Specials (slab bodies).
Look around and find a resale carved-top P90 beast in great shape. I have a 50s Trib goldtop with P90s from 2010 and it is a killer-diller.

Peegoos, I can't tell if that's flat or carved. Whatever it is, it sounds nice.

That's excellent!! I'm talking with a guy on reverb but he's asking 950 total and I was hoping not to spend that much.

I've got a black '50's Tribute that I put a Bigsby on, and use for our Neil Young stuff.
Great guitar, excellent value for money, but I sometimes wish I'd got a '60's Tribute as I prefer the neck.

Ha! I didn't recognize this guy at first, but after listening to a little of his playing I thought it sounded like Greg Koch. Then I looked at the dude closer and realized that it was him. I guess it says something about a person's playing when you can identify him/her by their style.

I think I paid between £500 - £600 for my mint used '50's Tribute about 5-6 years ago.

I cant find fault with my Tribute. Its just as good as any of the traditional and classic that I had. will probably change the pots and wiring at some point, but thats just a matter of personal preference . They are great guitars for the money.

The 2010 50s Trib goldtop/P90s I have is a monster player. I got it 2nd hand for $450 with case. It sounds fantastic and plays as well as my CS R8 that cost many times more.

Lol, now that's a steal! I bought one and we negotiated an inclusive price of $850. I know that's a bit high, this time the *want* beat the *need*. I'll post pics when it gets here.
And thanks for the great advice, info, and pics.

The reviews for this Epi Lp Special in TV Yellow are *stellar* esp. for the price of $399 which pretty much everyone says is too low. I have played one and it's a ridiculous value. Big 50s neck w/ binding. I'm kind of a pickup snob and the stock "Epiphone P-90 Pro" pups sound fantastic.

You know, I don't care as much about the Bling of bound necks as I do the feel. Bound necks typically don't have to deal with fret sprout and they just feel good to me.

I'd like to know why fret sprout has become so common, and why there is such poor fret end finishing going on. I gave up on Fender Mex strats after getting 2 last year and both were unplayable the fret ends were so bad. I've got cheap guitars 15+ years old and none of em have it, yet many new Fenders do as well as some Gibsons, just to name 2 big brands. Here's a very cheap Hohner Strat neck of mine, 20 some years old, note the attention to detail on filling every fret end, smooth as glass. Same with the next pic, a cheap JB Player Tele 15 years old. I've got an Explorer I originally bought in 1977 and the fret ends are and always have perfectly smooth.

It will play and sound like a guitar costing three times as much.

I'd like to know why fret sprout has become so common, and why there is such poor fret end finishing going on. Fret sprout is due to wood continuing to season (dry out) after the guitar is completed. The wood shrinks; neck becomes slightly narrower, but the fret wire retains its original length. Frets don't actually sprout; they stay right where they were put--and the wood retreats from the ends. This problem is sometimes due to improper seasoning of the original lumber, or more often it's the result of guitars being stored in extremely dry (air conditioned) environments. It's the reason why high-end acoustics require humidification to prevent cracks, splits, and neck deformation. Poor fret end finishing is a matter of economics. Fret end finishing requires an individual human using tools to pay attention to each and every fret end, making it nice and round and smooth. This sort of handwork adds immensely to production cost. Every second a person has a guitar on a bench in front of them means less profit if the maker wants to stay within the same price point. So rather than increase wholesale price or reduce profit, they reduce production cost by installing the frets, slapping it on the arse, and sending it out the door.

Oh that is a beaut! You got a good one.
The price on these Tribs 2nd hand has gone up quite a bit. About five years ago they were about half what they're going for today; I blame it on all the bad press Gibson was getting at the time.
They weren't exactly giving them away on the used market, but they were substantially cheaper.
Gibson's image is slowly increasing again, so prices for new and used are climbing.
Have you seen this vid from 2016?

I haven't seen or even thought of Charvel in decades! That's a good vid, thank you! Ya, I could only be happier if I got it for $399. But I'm not complaining.
I tried to get the weight but my scale is wonky. I'm going to try another one.

I feel like I just got lucky with the prom queen.
The seller said it was recently set up and I believe him. It's a little low for my ham fisted ways. 3 of the knobs have small chips along the top but it's no big deal. The rest is perfect. The little blemish shown in the picture came off with a little help from a finger nail.
So is the top maple, body and neck mahogany, and the fingerboard rosewood? I'm pretty sure about the mahogany and rosewood. The top almost looks pine but I doubt that's what it is.

Congrats! I had the identical model. Really liked it too, played and sounded great. Sold it to buy a more upscale model, but I wish I hadn't.
