We had our first one a couple weeks ago and it was a double. Noon to 2 outdoors @ a new restaurant gig and later in the evening back to our old 8 yr regular gig at a bar from 6-10, but we played outside there for the first time. Masks, social distancing etc... It was a long day but the tips were very good on both jobs and we had fun. It also marked my first gig w/my new trio, our regular drummer couldn't make it and the Hammond player is fighting brain cancer, so I had a brother and his sister that play drums and organ respectively who are excellent players. That felt really odd after working w/the same trio for about 95% of my gigs for the last 20 yrs, but time marches on I guess. We have a long 2-7:30 job coming up Sat, but once the cold weather hits probably be sitting home again....

I teched a fund raiser two weeks ago. Only job since mid March. Two trios. We had a dedicated mic guy. He put up three vocal mics, I eqed the monitors and those mics we put in the used mic case. Three fresh ones for the first sound check, and three more for the opening act. Three MCs all got their own handhelds.

I'm based in UK. All of our gigs since March were cancelled due to Lockdown, but ......, when restrictions were slightly lifted, we played 3 gigs in 7 days (with varying levels of social distancing). Unfortunately we're going back into stricter lockdown again, and our fantastic drummer has also decided to retire due to health concerns (he's in a high risk group).
We've got an "acoustic" gig booked in a couple of weeks, but I don't think it'll go ahead as I think the bars will be locked down again. After that - nothing. :-(

In August my classical trio (I play flute in it) started doing wedding ceremonies in RI (USA). One in August, three in September, one coming up next Friday, one in November and one in December..... We usually do around 35 weddings per year so we are way off our norm. These are the first we've done since the wedding gig we did last January.
The brides tell me that there will be 47 people there plus my trio....yeah, right...
The outdoor ones have more than 47......
We keep to ourselves / distanced. My regular violinist is a teacher in MA (he can't go into RI due to Covid) so I've hired a sub for him on the gigs - she's excellent. btw: All of the pro symphonies in Boston/Providence/Cape Cod have cancelled their performance season - I have the "pick of the litter" as far as a pool of subs...
A gig is a gig.

We've been doing outside low volume or acoustic gigs almost every weekend around Georgia since mid August. So far so good, but we've lost a lot of corporate holiday parties and NYE.

My days of doing "gigs" are in the past; which is why I love doing the "Jams". Less wear and tear on this OLD body!
With all of the "Covid" rules in place; there is no telling when a "Jam" will be able to happen. Just finding a suitable venue will be a major hurdle.
Regardless: my moto is still "Have Drums, Will Travel"; so I am just waiting on the sidelines, until then.

Oh, and the pub that runs the "Buskers' Night" that I've been going to most weeks for the last 15 -20 years has been closed since March, and may never re-open

we did the 2-7:30 outdoor job last Sat, 5 1/2 hrs is an hour or two longer than we like but went very well, used our vocalist and she knocked it out of the park as usual. meanwhile back to our regular job outdoors again this Sat. 6-10 things are picking up though winter's looming and I don't think I'd risk playing indoors yet. for now just trying to have fun getting back to playing, but way above all, be safe, safe, safe...no gig's worth getting sick over

Got a gig next Saturday - Halloween party indoors at an Elks club. Originally, I was told by the band leader that the club was very stringent on masks/distancing. But since I signed on, Florida's governor has relaxed most restrictions on bars/restaurants, so I will just keep my mask on and keep away from people as much as possible. I'm going dressed as a ghoul and my mask is black with a skull jaw on it so it will be part of my costume. Still, I wish I hadn't signed on for this. gig.

In August things WERE looking up in Massachusetts..... but in Sept school / outdoor activities started up again....and Covid cases started to spike.... www.mass.gov/news/baker-polito-administration-announces-targeted-measures-to-curb-rising-covid-19-casesI ordered some sax/clarinet reeds....enough to get me through 6 months of practicing so I don't loose my chops... RI is still doing ok (I've got a RI wedding gig in two weeks) but it too has seen a rise in cases... Here we go again.............................!
(I'm glad that I get along with my wife.. It's gonna be a l-o-n-g winter.)

My ensemble's last gig of the year "bites the dust".
I received this from the BRIDE today:
Hi Michael,
It’s with heavy hearts we have to inform you. I tested positive for COVID and we will have to postpone our 11/14/20 wedding. We are unsure of what our future plans are at this time. As soon as we know we will be in touch. For a possible date change or refund if applicable. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience. We know how hard this year has been on your industry.
Ashley

So Tbird, how was the Halloween gig? It was scary! Just kidding. Everyone's temp was taken upon entering. The older audience (50-60 people) wore masks unless sitting at their dining tables, even on the dance floor. We did have quite a few dancers too and we got good reactions from the rest. As a sub, I had put a lot of work into learning a bunch of songs that were new to me. The only major train wreck was when the leader/singer/ rhythm guitar started off a song in another key and I couldn't get it figured out in time and just sat it out. Now that it's over, there's nothing on the horizon and I have nothing to get geared up for. I still have my jam buddies, one an acoustic group and the other a rock and roll band. As the number of cases of the virus is going up at this time, playing out is not an option. I did get to use my acrylic Strat, fully decked out with flashing lights. Corny but fun. (somehow uploading pic turned it sideways).

Not doing gigs but after over 4 months of virus restrictions over here, we are now allowed to enough people in the one place to start practicing again.
There is an outdoor nursing home gig coming up in week or so.

we got called back to our regular gig this Sat. we're outside again, supposed to sunny and 64 but w/ the cases spiking we'll be extra careful [not that we haven't been on our other gigs the last month] this might be our last job this year as it's kind of a miracle it'll be 64 on Nov. 21. I've already turned down inside work, being outside is risky enough.

Worked last Friday at my house gig and have work this and next Friday Saturday.
Lots of covid protocol to adhere to but I have work. Prior to recent events, have only had one gig since mid March.
We have 20 documented cases up here, none of which are active. Remains to be seen weather the current upsurge will trickle down to our thankfully isolated city.

Just last week, I heard of several cases among people I know in the music community here in FL. One was a fatality. Most seem linked to open mics. But even at regular gigs, folks seem so blissed-out that they disregard safety. Having people dancing 6 feet away, huffing and puffing, cannot be a good thing. And how about being on a small stage with other musicians a few feet away. I feel bad for those that need the money. Fortunately, I don't, so I'm on the sidelines as long as this pandemic continues.

I think this past Sat. was the last gig we'll play until spring or a vaccine. it went great, my new trio is excellent, all the patrons outdoors were happy to have us back and it showed in the tip jar.

Have a 3 hour Christmas show on December 18 with new band. I'm the lead guitar. I'm putting on the new strings now and getting everything broken in and ready to go.
