Serves 4 and takes about 30 minutes
Big cup of basmati rice Small cup of red lentils 2 spring onions 1 tomato 2 garlic cloves Fresh ginger root Fresh cilandro leaves Green chili pepper Half spoon garam masala Half spoon curry Cumin seeds Turmeric A little salt Oil
Rinse rice until water clears. Cover with double amount of water, cover with cloth, simmer til water is gone and rice is dry and fluffy
Meanwhile gently heat the oil, add spices and chopped onions, fry at low heat for a minute Add rinsed lentils, chopped ginger, chopped tomato, garlic and pepper, cover with hot water, lid, cook to finish Add chopped cilantro
Serve rice with lentils in center. Add a little sour cream on top if dairy person.
