Last year (or the year before?) I built the Jazz Paul. The original was a Padouk top on a chambered alder body with a 24.75" scale Padouk/Ebony neck. The pickups are a pair of DiMarzio PAFs. It was the Les Paul you could sneak into your surf/jazz gig.
Well, I did some experimentations upon the back of the body... and let's just say it's living its life out in a leper colony now.
So I ordered a new body, only this time a Padouk cap over a solid mahogany back. The original guitar/neck was finished w/Tung Oil. So I sanded the neck a bit to bring some color/grain back up and, this time, the body and the neck (except fretboard, of course, are finished with clear nitro.
I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Thanks all!
This really is a great player. Especially with me being a Les Paul feller.

Whoo! I am not a fan of gold hardware because I think it looks a bit too 'fake it 'til ya make it', but on that red wood grain it looks...pretty dang nice!

Thanks!
This guitar could have gone either way. I went with gold the first time around.
Sometimes a guitar just screams gold.
Or some sort of voice from somewhere.

Yeah, Leftee, that looks beeyoutiful. Did you pore-fill before applying the tung oil? If so, what did you use?

No fill. These days if I’m not painting, I don’t grain fill.
Edited to add...
The back of the neck was tung oiled. I sanded it a little and shot some clear gloss nitro on it for this iteration.
This new body is just sanded and shellacked/nitro.
