This came up on kijiji recently . I initially thought it was a shortscale bass , I tend to favour them now . But it was a longscale so I passed on it , the next day I decided to go after it anyway , and discovered a good friend had just picked it up . A couple of days ago my buddy found another treasure he couldn't live without and offered me the Unicorn he picked up last week . At the price he paid for it . They're not common . Riverhead was a small Japanese factory , most of their stuff was pretty standard , but very well made . The Unicorn was a headless bass , with a two octave neck , fairly small body . A very mid 80's bass . There was a huge factory fire , it was never rebuilt . The brand became obscure . I spent some time cleaning it up . Oiled the fingerboard , polished the frets . Discovered how the strings are clamped and adjusted things . It has some black roundwounds strings , they sound good for now , I'm leaving them on . It's quite a nice bass . I've got it dialed in for my playing preferences . It sounds good .

The body reminds me of the Burns Flyte bass from the 70's. They were short scale I think. Hope you enjoy your Unicorn.

Body is definitely influenced by the Burns , but the Unicorn is long scale and headless . I gotta find me a pastel suit and a headband now .

Don't forget the white sneakers with fluorescent laces.

Interesting bass. I have never seen one like it. Very unusual but cool!
