Good stuff. That song is probably why I started playing guitar. Our garage band fodder. Jim

I couldn't decide if I wanted to play my Jazzmaster or my Mosrite clone, so I recorded two separate tracks with each. Then, because I like the sound of my Duesenberg P90 and my Gretsch 6120 DC, so I recorded additional tracks with those. So, what is on the final mix is ALL of them.

Nicely done! Playing to a backing track is huge fun. I like the mix with the guitars panned left and right.
Johnny Smith would be proud!

Thanks, Geno. I'd rather do my own backing tracks, but my drum program didn't have that surf groove, so I found the bass/drum track online. Years ago,I had a set of Yamaha digital drums and I would do the drum parts myself, but not any more. For most of my tunes these days I use EZ Drummer or the Logic Pro Drummer. BTW, don't ever go AWOL from the forum again. LOL!

Very nice! I really like your tremolo touch.
I’ve always loved that song, and have noodled with it a lot over the years.

Two of the melody tracks also centered. Third melody track panned left, fourth panned right. It made for a pretty big sound, I think.

That is a tune I've played in a band, but never recorded. I may have to give that a shot, and add some wacky...customization.

Hope you can remember the lyrics! My tendinitis was not too bad today so I took a shot at it. Yeah, I could not remember the words! Click here: soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14149614

The Ventures tried to keep up with the times. In the 70's, they produced a disco album and re-worked WDR with a disco feel and wacka-wacka guitars. They added some vocals between the verses, something like, "Walk Don't Run, baby,Yeah". Not my favorite album by a long shot.

They also did a rework of Hawaii Five-O, but much slower (Five-O 2000, or something like that). It lost the 'motion' of the original.
I was fortunate to see 'em play a few times over the years. The last time was in 2010; Mel Taylor's son Leon was on drums, and he is a *monster* that rarely gets a mention when really great drummers are discussed. We got there early and Jeff Baxter (THAT Jeff Baxter) was hanging out and we chatted a bit. Turned out he was in town that week and he was sitting in with the band. During the show he gave his 'testimonial' about being a kid living in Mexico City as the child of a dad in the diplomatic corps and being a total Ventures freak. He pestered his parents until they relented and they got him a Jazzmaster. And the rest is history.

Nice. "Play Guitar with the Ventures" was the first record I had. 2nd was "Meet the Beatles".

The Ventures is why I started playing guitar, The Beatles is why I continued playing guitar. Jim
