Unfortunately my parents did not seem to appreciate music sufficiently to play anything at home that I can recall. However on occasion my stepdad, who owned a restaurant/bar establishment, would bring home bunches of used 45's that were pulled from the jukebox they had . Most of them were well worn but this at least provided me with an exposure to music at a relatively early age. Of course transistor radios were also becoming a popular item in the early sixties as well.

My dad was inspired by Benny Goodman to take up clarinet and then alto sax as a young man. He played in dance bands in high school, and was on a Milwaukee city bus on his way home after a gig when he heard about the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He always loved jazz, primarily. He took his clarinet with him when his reserve unit was called up.
After VJ Day, when he hoped to get mustered out and return home, he was assigned instead to a service band that played at west coast ports to welcome troop ships home. The bands were composed of great musicians who had been drafted out of the top big bands in the country. He always said that was the best part of his service.
