So my lovely little 2008 Laney LC15-110 is blowing mains fuse on IEC cord socket, even with tubes removed, smelling awful and sometimes some smoke magically appears from "somewhere". The internal HT fuse is fine. Coronavirus lockdown and reduced work says I have all the time I need to fix it, but I also don't want to pull the entire chassis apart to get the three circuit boards out to be able to start testing components (all soldered from underneath so the boards have to be disconnected and come out). It's not worth money, it was convenient pedal platform at home, gigged nicely though a little underpowered against a loud drummer. Maybe it's just time to replace it.
I'm thinking of a small used Mesa Boogie combo for their awesome clean channels but repairing those will be a chore, or perhaps the new Fender tone master Deluxe reverb, because it does sound good and the IR record out would be excellent for home use, but in ten years time will repairs be possible?
Any thoughts?
On anything?
Grilled cheese with butter vs mayo? (I like either equally well, BTW).

Sounds like you know the answer -- move on and enjoy amp shopping! Its a good time of year for deals.
And mayo on a grilled cheese? Never heard of such a thing, so I'm clearly in the butter camp.

Just replace it with a new amp and please forget the Mayo on Grill Cheese sandwich lol Anything but butter is sacrilege 😉

I had one of these years ago and I did like it quite a bit. That said, I remember pulling the chassis for a look-see and noticing surface-mount components. Aside from changing a transformer or tubes, I'd give fixing one of these a hard-pass.
Some really cool pedal platform sort of amps are the Marshall Origin series. Worth a look, in my book.

Thank everyone for your thoughts. Sometimes we need people to point out the obvious to us. So, yes, it's time to budget for a new amp.
Also I just made grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch with butter on one half and mayo on the other. The family didn't notice. I now know I prefer mayo, but there's not a lot in it.

I would propose doing both. Replace amp, fix it at your leisure.

Or...
Remove the chassis and flog it as a fixer-upper. Using a nice piece of wood, fill the gap created by the removed the chassis. Now you have an extension cab.
It will, of course, demand a new head. Laney makes some nice ones. 😉

I'd at least crack it open and have a look-see for any obvious skid marks left by the Majick Woo-woo Smoke as is tried to sneak out the back door. Sometimes a cooked component will call you right in. If no joy on that front, then at least you tried. I recommend the Katana 50 1x12

Fwiw
The above is how I talked myself into buying my Mesa Recto-Verb 25 head. That whole saga started with a blown up Rocket 44 I bought on CL.

We could use the bubble-headed booby these days.

Peegoo: I've had the chassis out twice. There is nothing obvious at all. Only hope it to dismantle and flip the circuit boards over.
Leftee: What are your thoughts on the Mesa heads? I am considering of using it as a cab, in fact without the chassis I could get a 12" in there.
Marshalls and Laneys are not on my list right now. I have always been a clean + pedals kind of guy and when I think of my favorite clean sounds, it's Andy Timmons and Mike Landau, so that's blackface cleans. Hence my initial thoughts of Mesa or Fender. The used Mesa market over here seems to have a lot of F-30s and F-50s, DC-5s, and Subway Blues. The low weight of the Tone Master amps and their excellent IR out is very tempting despite the lack of tubes.

My only experience is my Recto-verb 25 head.
The cleans are stunningly excellent. And the reverb is excellent as well. Of course... it’s a Mesa. Clean or OD, you can make it anything you want. *Extremely* flexible and authentic.

I really can’t over-emphasize the amp’s tones, in general.
The cleans can do any flavor clean your heart desires.
I don’t find it hard to dial in great tones. I know many who find that hard.

Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.

Buy a Silver Face Fender and be done with it.

Buy a Silver Face Fender and be done with it. Yeah, it’ll still be sounding great and be easily maintained long after the all singing and dancing, multi-channel bells and whistles latest rage you’d otherwise have bought had frazzled its pcb into an early grave of intentional obsolescence. And the one after that too, ad infinitum. Let the amp do the core tone, and let pedals do the bells and whistles stuff.

Mostly out of budget. But every time I look I seem to magically end up down the rabbit hole of small Mesa combos. But they all weigh a ton.
