It's cool when one submits a topic and ends up more educated after reading the responses. cheers

The same way I feel about Brussels sprouts and okra: they make me gag.
But some people like'em, so I won't be firebombing the local Brussels Sprout 'n' Okra Farm anytime soon.

I seem to be short a couple genes. I have no problem recognizing the skill, talent, whatever you chose to call it, but I just don't care for either. Am I alone? i like some, better than others... i really believe that it's a matter of exposure
i dated an operatic soprano during my time in music school for a couple of years that helped my appreciation and understanding. i began volunteering to play in the pit so i could be around her more and found that playing the music is a challenge. after i graduated and began teaching, i was given the task of teaching and conducting musicals.
to sit and listen can be a chore if i don't know the language... that's listening to the music for the music's sake. i don't do as well there... knowing the language and the story helps.

The closet to an operatic female singing I like is Clare Torry singing In the Great gig in the sky. Musicals very few.

I’m still waiting for Poop: The Musical The writers must be constipated. Operatic singer Screamin' Jay Hawkins already...[air quotes] covered that topic: And! You can't get much better than Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood singing in the film version of the musical Paint Your Wagon.

Just saw Hamilton on the Disney channel and was really impressed. Unlike some musicals this one has no dialog. Everything was done thru song. Pretty historically accurate it seems. I did plays in school and saw a few on Broadway. Prefer the camera angle, no bathroom lines and free beer when I watch it on tv 😎

To read a biography of Alexander Hamilton and see how it should be a hip hop musical is just not something that would click for most people. My daughter is a big fan, and she went for her 11th birthday (with just my wife, because tickets were super expensive). I’d love to see it some day and she’s more than willing to go back.

My wife and I see a Broadway show every time we visit New York. (I hope I can continue to use the present tense for that statement.)
We've seen The Color Purple, Beautiful, The Lion King, and The Phantom of the Opera. My wife liked The Lion King best, but I might lean toward Beautiful. We also saw a non-musical, Harvey, starring Jim Parsons.
We also saw Wicked in Chicago. Or some of it. We were sleep-deprived from the trip there and slept through most of it.
