you know it, you love it. mine (on my mij jag) was at the fifth fret on the g string. some days it was worse than others. if i fretted a lower c while i hit that high c, it wasn't noticeable, but that wasn't always practical. and i doubt anyone i played with would notice it, anyway. but it bugged the hell out of me. anyhow, i tried all kinds of things. magnets on the tuning peg (for extra mass, not extra magnetic voodoo). magnets on the bridge. keeping my tuner on the headstock while playing. putting a rubber washer in between the strings and the string tree. putting the headstock against the wall while playing. changing from roundwounds to flatwounds. all of these things helped to some degree, and some even appeared to eliminate it (or more accurately, move it up or down a fret that i didn't use as often as that c), but then it would get humid or dry or hot or cold or whatever, and it would be back. here's the latest. just showed up today, and my initial impression is that this is the best fix yet. it took care of the dead spot at c. i think it moved it up to the sixth fret, but it also reduced it at that fret. so i'm happy so far. we'll see how it goes. i'm sure i'll be back up here in a week saying, "well ..." reverb.com/item/37664185-fender-brass-string-tree-retainer-for-precision-bass-massive-brass-nos-from-late-70s

Yeah I had a Fender Jazz bass with dead spot on 5-7 frets on the G string with the 7th being the worst

I had a Telecaster bass that had been defretted. The "classic dead spot" around C on the G string was terrible. I used my own homebuilt version of a "Fat Finger" - the outline of the headstock in 1/8th inch thick brass, held in place behind the tuning machines. It moved the dead area up to around C#-D but also widened the affected area....

Have you considered maybe a little less metal? Yes, in fact I am only estimating 1/8 inch (it was a long time ago) but I had my pal do a couple versions - it really did NOT solve the issue, only moved it around. You can do kinda the same thing by using a small carpenter's clamp!
