"Will Ferrell."
I'm not a big Will Ferrell fan, but the SNL skits with him as Trebek and Darryl Hammond and Norm MacDonald as Connery and Burt Reynolds were genius. See kids, this is what SNL used to be like when they were funny.

Then there was the nearly all-Spanish SNL sketch, called "Quien Es Mas Macho?" Bill Murray was the very serious host. "Lloyd Bridges es mas macho. Investigador submarino."

if I were to take this questions seriously then the replacement would have to be engaging but still command the respect that this show has. Turning to a Will Ferrell/Pauli Shore thing would totally ruin the show and turn it into a joke/parody of what it was
The only person i can think of would be Neil deGrasse Tyson. He is smart, funny, has the academic accolades and knows how to work an audience. he would be just as genuine as Alex

Mostly play Fender guitars and amps. I'm 71 and have had a guitar since 1964. Got serious in 1975.

I just hope the replacement is serious and smart. That rules out lots of recommendations above.

Ken Jennings - he is the GOAT afterall Now that the time has come, this thread needs a revival. I bet Ken Jennings will be the successor to Alex Trebek. He joined the production team at the show just this year (well after I started this thread), and now I'm wondering if they hired him with the idea of replacing Trebek, since the time was coming soon.

Yes I agree this was the intent. The 3 GOATS (Jennings, Holzhauer and Ritter) have a new show based on the Brit version called Master Minds so Ken Jennings may not be available. Jeopardy tapes 2X a week for 45 weeks so maybe Ken can do both since both are ABC shows .

I don't remember his name, but he was a bartender from (I think) New York who did really well and had a great sense of humor.

Austin Rogers. He seemed to always be on the verge of an awkward moment, but he had a better run than the vast majority of Jeopardy! winners.
We were going to visit his bar in 2019 when we visited NYC, but we forgot. And we don't drink anyway. But I do think his bar serves food, and we do eat.

Ken Jennings has already joined Jeopardy in some capacity. He seems the natural choice.

Don't know if any of you guys watch Bloomberg TV, but Mark Crumpton (one of their news reporters) would be perfect.

Ken Jennings has been named first interim guest host for Jeopardy. No other guest hosts have been named as yet. Microsoft news article

Payton Manning. Very likable and comfortable in front of the camera. Seems to be able to switch to serious conversation quickly.

Is it too late to get in on this? My pick: Don Rickles.

I must admit, when I am watching the show, and the clue is something I consider common knowledge, and no one buzzes in, it does bring out my inner Rickles.
Remember that time the category was football, and after someone buzzed in with the wrong answer, no one buzzed in during the rest of the category?
That was where Trebek showed his class and dignity. I think he caught himself about to roll his eyes.

Well, Ken Jennings had his first day yesterday. He did okay and was acceptable. He talked a little faster that Alex. But since all the proposed (for now) hosts are temporary, I'm going back to Al Michaels. Being temporary means age wouldn't matter with Al.

My wife and I are big fans of Jeopardy.
After watching Ken Jennings last night, I think he can do the job but someone needs to tell him to not talk so fast. He can be hard to understand.

Is there a requirement age to watch, I'm 58 and always found the show quite boring....

I’ve watched since I was a teenager (not religiously, on and off), so I don’t think there is an age requirement. Usually any TV at 7pm when Jeopardy airs here is family time, and the family doesn’t want to watch that.
Or, they don’t want to watch me answering questions and jumping up and down about how I should go on the show.

Or, they don’t want to watch me answering questions and jumping up and down about how I should go on the show. My old man should have tried out for the show. He watched religiously and answered 90% of the questions correctly. Always before the contestant did. He got lung cancer which metastasized to his brain and still answered correctly, till his death. He never jumped up and down just looked around with a smug grin.
