I've had two more eBay "item not received" claims filed today. What a cluster you know what.

Yeah, my package seems to be stalled in Greensboro NC since the 12th.

I have a couple of things "in the pipeline" that are taking longer than expected as well. Kind of unfair to judge current performance against service standards of more "normal" times, so I'm trying to be patient.

I'll throw in some good news.
I placed three orders with Amazon on Tuesday. One was supposed to be delivered tomorrow via USPS -- my usual carrier dropped it off at 10 AM this morning. The second was shipping from France. The expected delivery was Dec 22-28. DHL delivered it about an hour ago. The third is supposed to be here on Monday -- Amazon shows it shipped via UPS and UPS tracking shows it on schedule.
I ordered something else today, also from Amazon. It is scheduled for Sunday delivery. We'll see.

Package I mailed on the 9th "Priority Mail small flat rate box" is not at it's destination yet.
I emailed my buyer ... He understands it, so that's good.

Did you need them this year? Evidently not ! Lucky for me there’s a GC close. They’ll probably be all rusty when I get them anyways.🤣

Amazon package still hasn't shown (shipped the 9th from the next state over), Amazon is willing to call it lost and gave me a refund, and I reordered.
Brother sent me something that should have arrived today - the same tracking number forwarded us both to wildly different descriptions of the status of the package. I'm under the impression it is being held at the post office for me and I can pick it up tomorrow morning. We shall see.

This problem is caused by how package shippers handle the stuff.
Small flat envelopes are different; much of their handling is via automated machines, so everything pretty much stays in a line like cars on a train.
Fat envelopes and packages are moved and routed by hand. All the big shippers store them in rooms/containers/bins between times they're being moved. What happens here is everything that goes into the system during about a 10-day window in early December tends to get buried at the bottom of the fast-growing piles of packages. Ironically, many packages sent later often arrive before the older ones in the system because they're closer to the top of the pile.
This year has been the worst for package delays--compounded by the increased number of people shopping online due to health concerns. USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, Amazon and DHL are all buried. It just takes more time to move it when the stuff is pouring in faster than they can shovel it.

My shipper told me he sent the package priority mail, which clearly means diddley squat. For a package to sit at a facility for over a week is inconceivable how screwed up they are. We can then be relatively sure that when/if they get to it that it won't be using any fifo system.

So how long should one wait in these times before contacting the seller and considering the item lost?
Ordered on the 12/12, last seen 12/14 at the USPS Distribution Center nearest seller. Even in this jacked up era there has to be a point where you call it lost. We've sent and received Christmas cards from Texas to Michigan, Ohio, Florida and they're arriving timely. Grrrr.

That’s the unanswerable question, really. I just lucked out with an Amazon order placed on Dec. 2 that I successfully applied for and received a refund- this just yesterday. There was a tracking number, but it never showed any activity.
But I don’t know how germane to the topic this experience might be. I suspect this was a sneaky order that purported to be from the USA, but actually was from China. I’ve run across this more than once from Amazon.
I might be mistaken, but orders originating in Rosedale, NY are actually coming from China. I’ve seen it a few times now. Or maybe that’s just coincidence.

I went through my eBay items last night and found the following:
1. I have now had three non-receipt claims filed against me due to postal delays.
2. On top of that, I have another 4 items that are stalled out in the world, and nobody has complained. Those people pay attention to the news and are considerate.
3. On top of that, I have three more that were delayed but started moving yesterday and the day before. The delay on those was 13-15 days just stalled without any updates.
4. I also have three items that I purchased that are delayed. I haven't complained to anyone, I am just waiting.

A quick Google shows some aspersions cast at the Greensboro NC Dist USPS, where the tracking stalled. I also sent a followup message to the seller. Glad this wasn't medicine or something perishable.

Rosedale is immediately next to JFK Airport, so it's quite possibly the point of entry for those items from China, and they say its coming from Rosedale just to say its from the US.

I live in Nova Scotia . Waiting over a month now for a parcel from the US . Another parcel is on the way from England . No tracking for either item . At first I thought they were lost , I'll be a little more patient now . The parcels I sent Canada Post actually arrived slightly early .

We've sent and received Christmas cards from Texas to Michigan, Ohio, Florida and they're arriving timely. Grrrr. See my post just above yours. Cards and letters fly through the system becasue it's automated. I had a small envelope of parts incoming, sitting at a USPS distro hub just up the road for three full weeks. Tracking updated when it arrived there, and then no updates for three weeks. It arrived day before yesterday, looking none the worse for wear...if a little dusty The packages are not lost...they will arrive. It's similar to what the military calls "frustrated cargo." Infortunately, it also frustrates shippers and receivers in the process.

I might be mistaken, but orders originating in Rosedale, NY are actually coming from China. I’ve seen it a few times now. Or maybe that’s just coincidence. Exactly. Rosedale NY is where packages go after clearing customs. Do not let "US Seller" fool you into thinking the seller in the US has the parts sitting on their counter waiting for your order. "Item location: [US]" is also no guarantee that when you order something, it's coming from a US location.

I ordered a laptop cover, earlier this year, and it turned out that it was a “Rosedale” situation. 6 weeks later I got it. All is well but what a crappy thing.

The packages are not lost...they will arrive. So I might get two soldering irons?! I should've gone with the fancier model! (I'm only partly joking. I'll offer to send one back if I get two. Amazon has been known to say "don't bother" at that point though, so who knows.)

I ordered some parts from StewMac on Dec. 1st. during a sale. They arrived yesterday.
At one point I did write to them to inquire. They responded that the mail sorting facility in Columbus was beyond screwed up.

We had a credit card bill take 11 days to make it across two states. Fortunately, they didn't charge a late fee.
The last of the ordered items arrived yesterday, fortunately. It seem like stuff ordered from the last week of November took longer to get here than stuff ordered 10 days later.

Heard something interesting on BBC radio last night (which bears on stuff coming from other countries). Evidently, once the whole COVID mess really started gaining momentum, affecting many people's incomes, product consumption dropped precipitously. As a result, a lot of shipping containers which would normally have been returned empty to Asia were left sitting in storage in ports around the world (because the orders for items with which to refill them were not being placed). Everyone involved was expecting consumption to rebound much more gradually (i.e.: typically). Then, when (for whatever reason) a lot people abruptly started buying stuff again, the Asian ports of origin were caught unprepared with a shortage of empty shipping containers on hand. This impaired their ability to containerize products for shipment and thereby caused additional delays in product delivery to international wholesalers and retailers (which would certainly help to explain at least lag times between consumer order placement and actual item shipment dates.

USPS has been awful for a few months now. It usually shows up - usually - but tracking is off and the times are long. I'll second that! Had an order, earlier this year, that was sent 2nd day delivery. It finally got here in 11 days. Not the sender's fault. It was the post office from where it was mailed (Asheboro, S.C.?) Had another incident a couple of weeks a go with something Amazon sent via UPS. Never got here so I canceled the order. The irritating thing about it was not so much that it was taking longer than expected but that the post office personnel with whom I spoke (multiple times) couldn't track the movement of the package any better than I could, online. What good is a tracking number if the parcel's progress/delivery information is never updated? I receive a notification, via email, of what is supposed to be delivered to my mailbox each day. Last week, the notification contained the CAVEAT: "USPS is experiencing unprecedented volume increases and limited employee availability due to the impacts of COVID-19" Guess their service doesn't go to "11" (not so veiled reference to "volume increases" and "Spinal Tap" lol)
