Told myself I wasn't going to do it again, too much work... couldn't help myself, seeds arrived at the local Lowe's and I got sucked in... then came home and internet ordered some too.

Nope.
I like the idea, but live in a neighborhood around some neighbors I don't know or particularly like. I also have a backyard that is something of a mess and doing yardwork doesn't make me excited.
Too bad, since my in-laws threatened to get me a peach tree for Christmas. I would have taken my chances on it (I live in the Midwest U.S.) and it probably would have roped me into really getting into that stuff.

I was a professional horticulturist for over 20 years. I have gardened pretty much my entire life. As much as I love turning the soil and getting all excited about growing vegetables, I realize that it is a massive cost in terms of time and energy. My wife loves cut flowers so I’m going to focus on growing a good mix of perennials and annuals this year. Will find some cool things that I can grow by seed, things that I couldn’t possibly find at the local garden center. I figure I can always buy lettuce, tomatoes, peppers etc. at our local market anyway.

I was thinking about it. It would be the first time. I thought I start small. Love vegetables.

Yes I've been selecting seeds the past week or so for the upcoming season.
It's a family activity for us

I like Costco and the local farmer's market. Zero interest in gardening. Been there, done that, don't like it.

I will not start planting until HD has small plants for sale. Living where I do, I have no real property to till so I grow a few tomatoes and peppers in large pots, and herbs in smaller pots. I have a small piece of actual yard that I use to grow eggplant and squash with varying degrees of success. I had to get used to sharing my "bounty" with the squirrels and Possum. Not sure where the Possum come from I have seen them in my yard. Yes it is a lot of work at times, but hey I'm retired and it gets me outdoors. I also enjoy the few fresh vegetables that I do manage to raise.

Does it have to be strictly vegetables? How about a row or two of cannabis, mushrooms and nutmeg? After blitzing on those three, a backbreaking few hours in the rest of the garden will pass unnoticed.

Not quite yet, I usually start lettuce, carrots and a few other spring veggies in mid-march, then peppers/tomatoes/beans/okra in mid-May.
This year for the first time though I took a few pepper plants indoors and have been overwintering them (as well as parsley, mint and chives) with a grow-light.
Mainly to get a head-start on production next summer but the jalapeno plant has actually continued producing peppers through winter.

I start tomato and pepper seeds second week in February and start growing sweet potato slips early March. Direct sow Summer squash and pole beans in April, and corn sometime after that.
The cold killed off the last of my tomato plants last week so I'm itching to get started again. Currently growing snow peas and garlic for Winter crops. Am prepping the soil this weekend to plant a few blackberry bare root vines.

Depends on where I will be. Hoping to sell the house and move nearer my cottage. I have garden plots at both places.
