My trusty Keurig bit the dust Christmas eve and I'm using the little 5 cup drip mr. coffee (it's painfully slow!) we use in the RV until i get another... i've rediscovered drip and am thinking about the Duo makers. i have noticed that there are other manufacturers selling coffee makers that are "pod" compatible and drip at a substantial price reduction.
i usually go with the "you get what you pay for" philosophy but i thought i'd ask you guys if you'd any experience with them?
i like the speed of the pods and the easy clean up... but i like the drip too, sometimes.

We use a Hamilton Beach Flexbrew because my wife likes drip and I like Kcups. Mostly it’s because I like strong coffee and she likes weak coffee. I really like our flexbrew though. The drip coffee is good and kcups are good as well. The kcup side will do pods and grounds for single serving as well.

+1 for the Flexbrew because it also has a BOLD setting on the drip. I believe the water is hotter and drips slower but there is a significant difference when using it. We initially got it to do Kcups and then when guests are over brew a pot of drip but because of the BOLD setting we rarely use the kcups
love this machine

that sounds like a winner ... thank you. in the mornings my feet hit the floor headed to the coffee maker. i used to make coffee at night and have the programming start it just early enough to be finishing when i woke up but since i retired i sleep until i wake up... so the speed of the keurig was a factor in choosing it. i had forgotten how good the drip is... thank you again.

If memory serves me correctly they are priced slightly less than the keurig is. I was skeptical at first, but I would never go back to a keurig.

Also it comes with a basket for grounds on the carafe side , so you don’t need to use paper filters. I usually run it thru the dishwasher about once a week.

Nice to see so many have discovered the Flex Brew. I've had mine for going on three years now and now a days, that's some kind of record as the so called popular name brand coffee makers seem to have a self destruct timer attached to them. My last three or four before the Flex Brew lasted no more than a year and a half then, boom, dead. I can't say I haven't had any issues with the Flex Brew though. The main hose line that feeds the water to the basket became unattached and leaked water everywhere so, it was necessary to tear it down, no easy task but, doable, and reconnect that line. Other than that, no issues and makes a good pot of coffee.

I was going to chime in and say that any combo appliance where one half will likely break before the other half (remember TVs with built in VCRs?) are a bad idea, but then I saw the price and realized that my Cuisinart drip brewer costs almost twice what that combo unit costs, so there goes that argument.

Cuisinart, that's one I had. Came with a self destruct timer. Maybe the newer ones come with an upgraded, longer lasting timer.

Yeah at 100 dollars it’s hard to go wrong. I’ve had mine for 3 years!

My Cuisinart bought new in 2006ish is still trucking, despite daily use and stupid hard water. It is a good thing too, because I had my eye on a fancy $300 Breville maker a few months ago and didn't even come close to pulling the trigger because this one still works.

We have a Keurig brand duo-machine, I think it's the 2.0 or something like that. Got a decent deal at Costco on it. It has it's own air pot style carafe on one side and the singe cup unit on the right. It uses a single reservoir for both sides. That carafe really works, too. This past fall I had a houseful when my mon passed and I brewed a pot one night after dinner. Next morning the coffee in that pot was still pretty warm.

I believe the water is hotter and drips slower but there is a significant difference when using it I have an ancient Krups that's basically a 'dumb' Mr. Coffee drip machine. It has a One Cup button designed for use with a small amount of grounds and one cup of water. It sends the hot water through the grounds at half speed so the grounds get fully saturated and have a longer steep. I use this setting all the time, even for a full pot. The coffee is much better this way. Here's a coffee something I discovered two weeks ago...and I can't be the only goober to have tried it: After shoveling snow, I came in and made up a big cup of hot cocoa with milk and chocolate shavings, and tossed a handful of mini marshmallows on it. The next morning when I made a cup of coffee, there were the marshmallows staring at me from their container, so I did a quick peegoo math calculation (coffee + marshmallows = yummy) and I tried it. Not too bad! Stirred up so the marshmallows melt, it's a lot like a capuccino with a little sugar added. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

It can do single K cups or you can use the stainless steel carafe. It's got a "strong" button as well. My wife is the coffee snob in the family and she grinds beans and usually uses an aeropress to make her morning cup. Thing is whe will use the Keurig when she's in a rush and has no complaints. I think she just likes the ritual. Edit: ours is the Duo-plus. It looks like a single serve machine but can accomodate the large carafe. It's either or, not side-by side. duo plus

We bought the Cuisinart dual coffee/kcup. Worked fine for a few weeks. The carafe leaked. Took it back to William Sonoma, easy exchange for another one. A few weeks later same problem. We called Cuisinart, nice chat but all they could say is take it back to WS for another exchange. Emailed us confirming the take it back. We threw up our hands and returned it for full credit. Purchased a nice Cuisinart coffee maker with stainless steel carafe and a simple Keurig maker. Wish we could have had one machine for making coffee, but we have plenty of countertop space so we are fine with the outcome.

my HB duo coffee maker is due to arrive monday... they're calling it a trio, i think because they include a reusable pod type filter. i've been using one of those for years... anyway... i'm looking forward to it. i've enjoyed the drip as a change... i'd like to order some truly GOOD beans to grind. i've been buying the house roast at a shop in a town nearby and it's pretty good, but i'm sure there's better...
thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Good to hear. They are very versatile imo. Its great if you just want a quick cup of coffee. You can do kcups, pods or even grounds . Enjoy.
