The other day I was thinking (for whatever reason), "what if all my guitars were stolen...what would I buy as replacement(s)?"
or, "If I had to lose all my guitars except 1, which would I keep?"
or, "which guitar, if lost, would "hurt" the most?"
It's obvious that I don't need all the guitars I have (about 9 or 10)...I just like them. Some are new, some are old, some are expensive, some are considered cheap (or close to it).
I like them all (aside from the "crafted in China" Tele which I use as a beater guitar), but for different reasons.
I'm assuming that I would NOT replace all my guitars if they were all lost. I sort of figure I'd just buy 1 electric guitar so that I could continue playing, and that would be it. But who knows what I would ACTUALLY do?
Anyway, in a surprising decision to me - I think I would buy a Tele! I would probably opt for one with a humbucker, 12" fretboard radius...and nicer, modern options. I have no idea which Telecaster model that would be (perhaps custom?). But I figure it would offer much of most of what I would want in a guitar.

Out of necessity, my acoustic. I have a Yamaha FG-160 that I was using to lead music at a nursing home once a month until February or March of 2020. That's the only one I gig with. But I would be sorely tempted to get a G & L ASAT in butterscotch blonde and, if amps are also stolen, the $400 Fender Champ amp.
Although the tweed version might go better with the butterscotch blonde ASAT. $75 more.

For me, the 2016 Les Paul High Performance would be the killer. Either of them.
They play identically - one is more jazzbox than the other (but it can do a decent one, but pales next to the wine red one). The arctic white, though, is a LEs Paul that is absolutely irreplaceable - does the Sex Pistols/NYDolls thing in spades, and can still get credible jazzbox with some tone adjustments. It also gets straight into Mick Ronson territory if I want.
For either it's HOW they play - the sound is grand, but the little things are eclipsed by how they feel in my hand.

A complete loss I'd be tempted to go to one guitar, like a Custom Shop Nocaster.

Out of all my guitars only my 1972 Hagstrom Swede would be irreplaceable, yes I could get another vintage one easy enough, but it had some custom triple bucker rail pickups in it I had custom made years ago that are unavailable/irreplaceable. Most of my 40 some other guitars could all be replaced more or less. Here are said triplebuckers:( they are wired/switched for every conceivable combination).

I have several that are irreplaceable.
Perhaps that's not the correct term...but a guitar that took 25 years to find is not something I can replace in a month or two hundred.

Most would be replaceable , but my 335, my 59 thin skin strat that my wife bought me before we married, my 72 Martin d35 would be irreplaceable. My 2015 fender custom shop 59 ri strat , 70th anny broadcaster and my player series strat I got as a retirement gift would be tough too.

If they all disappeared today, the first one I'd replace would be my P-90 Les Paul Special. Followed closely by my 52 RI Tele.
I could cover a lot of sounds with those two if that's all I had to work with.

For me, the 1 guitar that would be difficult to replace would be my USA Jackson Soloist. Not that there aren't a lot of those floating around...but this is the 1 guitar that I got pretty much everything I wanted: The color (blue with some nice tiger striping), USA made, ebony fret board, HSS pickup configuration. And the kicker was that I bought it used, but it's like brand-spanking-new. And it was purchased at a VERY affordable price compared to prices on EBAY. I think it would be tough to find another one just like it at an affordable price.

I’ve given this all too much thought, but I guess it’d be my baby acoustic, as it’s not like I’m going to be playing out.
That being said, what'm I gonna do with all these now pointless pedals?

It would probably be one I built. I’m not sure which one, though.

The one that has me scratching my head is my ES-335. I love it, but probably would have a hard time spending that much again. I'd be torn between buying a new one but waiting and trying a lot first - my tastes in necks is such that most are too thin for me these days - and super charging an Epiphone Dot. Since I do all that work myself the labor would be free to swap all the electronics, all the hardware, refret it, Buzz Feiten nut, the whole works. Heck, I've thought about doing that just as a out-on-a-stand sort of guitar. Plus, I've replaced some hardware on my 335, the pickups (but not the pots) and installed a Feiten nut, so I guess I'd do almost that much work to a Gibson anyway.
I like my Strat, but I've played other Strats that I like. I like my acoustics, but they aren't irreplacable; my classical I couldn't comparably replace for anything close to what I paid for it initially, so that would be annoying, but not heart breaking. I have a Korean Gretsch that is the bee's knees, but... lots of those out there.

I have Tom Anderson Tele that shines above the others as far as quality, playability and “jack of all trades”, so it would have to be replaced first.
I can only imagine dealing with the insurance company, as far as the “replacement cost” clause pertaining to the gear.

My 63 white and gold SG Custom would hurt the most if gone. It's not the one I play the most but it's 2nd in the lineup. I have a lot of history with that one not-to-mention it's value. It's never had the headstock broken and has 3 PAF humbuckers in it. I definitely wouldn't be able to replace it for the $275 I paid for it in 1975.

It would be this feller:
Padouk on mahogany with a padouk/ebony neck. 24.75" scale. Dimarzio PAFs.
Yeah, I could build it again. But the loss would still sting the most.

If all my pedals disappeared I'd replace them with a Princeton Reverb, to go along with the Nocaster that replaced all the guitars that disappeared.

I have a lot I don't need, but could honestly walk into any shop and buy an American Pro Strat or whatever Fender's current no frills USA Strat and be happy

I wouldn't mind a "do-over" myself. I only have one guitar: a 2007 MIM H/S/S Maple Fretboard Strat with Carvin pick-ups. Replacing it would be possible if I went that route, but I wouldn't even consider an upgrade to a MIA Strat because I've already had 2 of those and prefer the narrower nut width of the MIM. However, to be honest, I've been playing nothing but a Strat for about 32 years and I'm totally sick of them! Even with a bridge humbucker, I'm tired of that "Strat" sound. When I hear someone rocking a Telecaster bridge pick-up w/OD it sounds fatter and better than any Strat. So, I'd replace my MIM Strat with a MIM Tele, and add a second Gibson-style guitar with two humbuckers.

Good thread btw.
I'd run out and find a Gibson LP 50s neck / P90s/ Goldtop. A good variation would be the mid 2000s LP Special with the 2 P90s and neck binding.
Second option would be a Reverend Flatroc.
In either case I would put on an after market Bigsby.

Good call on Reverend (and Bigsby). I'd probably get a Rev Double Agent OG
(one of these) and give it the Vibramate treatment.

If all my instruments were suddenly gone, the first things I'd replace would be 2 Warmoth medium scale PJ basses and 2 Teles (Warmoth bodies with Strat contours) 1 with single coils and 1 with humbuckers. That would cover most of my actual needs, but might not end the acquisitions.
If I could only keep one of my existing instruments, it would be a Warmoth medium scale PJ.

I'd have to get at least one acoustic archtop to replace both my 1939 Gibson L50 and my Loar LH 650. Not sure what I would get, perhaps just a Loar LH 700 would keep me happy. Thinking more about it I'd probably also want another Explorer to replace my 1977. Might spring for a Korina one instead of replacing it with another black one. Might get a bit pricy. All of my strats gone? Not sure what I'd want to replace all of them with, that would be a tough one, but I'd want a lot less of them. Could I get it down to one? A SRV one might just keep me happy. Tough choice though.

That shiny SRV Strat looks nice!

I've thought about this many times and have all my gear documented and insured just in case. I'd make sure to have a Telecaster and a Fender 5F4 Super or 5E3 Deluxe.

My mom's 1979 Takamine G-349 (Sentimental Value). If I were to buy just one guitar it would be a Gretsch 6120 or Gibson Semi-hollow or Hollowbody Electric or maybe Gibson Acoustic Electric
