I found myself in possession of a can of A&W Root Beer and some vanilla ice cream today. Decided to combine and man was it good.
I had not had one in a long, long time. Brought back some great childhood memories. I can easily work off the calories.

Another good’un - Vernors float.

Love one. Every once in a great while we'll go to the local A&W and get one fresh made. Their fried cheese curds are great too, YUM!

As a kid, at Scout camp, we used to get a float with orange soda and chocolate ice cream. Sounds wrong, but tasted right.

I get a hankering for one of those every once in a while. Takes me back when my folks would take us out for a treat and have one at the local A&W in a big frosted mug.

Mmmmm YES...takes me back to my childhood every time.
Try a dreamsicle float: Nehi orange soda and vanilla ice cream.
If you want to "adult it up," add a shot of Grand Marnier over the ice cream before you pour in the orange soda

Floats taste great. I prefer the classic Coke Float but Root Beer is good, too. My Mom liked 7-Up over strawberry ice cream.

Every time I drive by A&W if the line is not too long I have to stop and get a float. Yum.

A little vanilla cream soda makes it...pop!

Root beer and Coke are both good, but I haven't had one in a long time. I like the ingredients blended like a milkshake, but wouldn't argue if someone said blending means it's no longer a float.

A lot of people seem to like it, so I may be in the minority on this one. Root Beer floats are most excellent, and I think the Brown Dog may be second only to the root beer float.

Honestly, someone did it trying to gross everyone out, then it became a dare thing, then we all loved it.
I mean, it was Scout camp, and it was basically the only available treat and we didn’t have to cook it ourselves. We could’ve just had it with normal flavors, but since when do groups of 11-16 year old boys do normal things??

Now I want one. Another good’un - Vernors float. Oooh, I wants one. Called them Boston Coolers back in Michigan. Dang Texans don't import Vernor's here though.

Try a Guinness float. Yep.....Irish beer and vanilla ice cream. The roasty malt beer pairs amazingly with some nice vanilla ice cream The low alcohol and low carbonation is a nice match
Don’t knock it till ya try it and yes it’s a thing...google it and see

I wonder how a scoop of coffee ice cream in a Guinness would be, or perhaps a bit of vanilla and coffee ice cream.

I have A&W in the fridge and vanilla ice cream in the freezer right now. I will combine them tomorrow during the Chiefs-Chargers game. I don’t expect the 2nd string to win a pointless game so a float will make it more pleasant.

I didn’t chime in previously but I greatly prefer a Coke float over a root beer float, but it’s probably been 15 years or so since I had one.

Sounds wrong until I think of the fancy orange flavored dark chocolates I've eaten in recent years. I don't recall seeing them recently, but chocolate oranges (Cadbury?) were one of our daughter's favorite Christmas treats in her youth.

Dark chocolate and orange is excellent, in my book.
Here’s a killer combo: dark chocolate, orange and cranberry.

I'm wondering if the coffee ice cream scoop might work better in a more potent dark Doppelbock like Spaten Optimator.

Made one 2 nights ago using Dad's Root Beer and vanilla ice cream. Yummy, especially since it's been over a year since I last had one!

A PSA from my much younger self: root beer and gin don't mix well.

As a little kid, my two favorite sweet drinks were vanilla malt and rootbeer float. As an pre-teen, had to quit the sugary stuff do to hypoglycemia so I haven't had either in decades. But I do remember the taste fondly.
