I've been really fancying getting a a Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb or Princeton Reverb as my main gigging amp (mainly due to weight issues), and I've also been looking at a Tele Deluxe, Starcaster, 335 Pro and various other guitars.
However, it dawned on me that we've only played 3 gigs in the last 10 months (we lost about 50 :-( ), and there's no guarantee we'll ever get back to pre lockdown gig levels.
Also, I've hardly played any guitar at home during this time, so...... I got my old Mustang III out (haven't played through it since I got a Katana 100 in May ) and plugged my Nash S65 in and...... I'd forgotten how awesome the clean/ crunch Deluxe Reverb settings on it were. Absolutely brilliant, I don't think I could beat it with any amp/ guitar combination at any price. So, sadly I've realised I don't *need* any more gear, and I actually let a tonemaster I'd been offered for £620 go :-(

I think this COVID situation has nudged a lot of people to re-order their priorities. In my area, for example, the market (CL, etc.) is utterly glutted with used music gear.
And, in general, stuff that used to seem urgent/important somehow seems less so now.

That's an astute observation Taildragger, it's pretty much the same here. I'm not sure when we'll be allowed to gig again, or how many of our former venues will have survived, but I also think that a lot of local bands will probably have thrown the towel in. Fortunately we've pretty much decided to keep going ( although we don't currently have a drummer :-( ). We actually previously survived an 18 month lay off when our former drummer retired due to heart problems.

I'd still *like* a Tonemaster though

There is a clear distinction between need and want. I don't need any more gear either, but ...

11 electrics, 1 bass, 2 acoustics, a mandolin, a lap steel and 3 amps, plus a loaded pedalboard.
No gigs, no band, no intention aside from home recording.
Right now I'm putting together another Strat.
I dunno, I just like being surrounded by gear. Guitars and amps make me happy, even when I'm just looking at them.

Look at it this way, it’s less expensive than collecting cars.

I’m in a self-induced austerity regarding possessions in general. Just don’t feel the need for anything else since most of the enjoyment I get comes from free outdoor experiences and I can’t think of other things to buy that wouldn’t be wasteful..
Have 10 guitars, a piano, two keyboards, two cellos among other instruments, a couple music rooms, and play all the time.
Could definitely put to use an ES-335, OM-28, and a nice 12-string though haha..

We moved from a house with a full basement to one with no basement. I sold some gear in the pre-move downsizing but still brought too much; and am slowly coming to the conclusion that I should probably sell what I just like having and keep what I actually play.

I have 3 fine acoustic guitars and certainly don't need any more. And yet I window shop every day.
Taildragger is right, there are tons of really nice ones for sale right now, and a guy can get a great deal if he is patient.
Myself, I've never had a Bourgeois....

They are like works of art, or any other collectible that satisfies a need just by existing to be enjoyed. Same here. I have a dozen guitars or so and probably six amps, a couple of pedalboards etc. More than I need for sure and I decided a while back that if anything new was coming into the house, something had to go. One in - one out so to speak. The local music dealer takes trades, so this idea kinda works. But yeah, I just like being down in my music room and enjoying the gear. I actually thought at one time, working in a music store might be a good retirement job; but I never explored the option.

I advertised an acoustic guitar for sale on Craigslist at a reasonable price and I got exactly one response...from a scammer. Perhaps demand for gear will be stimulated by the new round of stimulus.

I havent gigged in a few years and that hasn’t cut my desire for gear. It actually strengthened it . In my gigging days of had 3 amps and 3 electrics and an acoustic. These days I have 8 electrics,2 acoustics and a banjo. I retired in August, so I had some extra money . I bought 4 guitars since the beginning of the year and sold just an amp. I’m sure I too like being surrounded by guitars.

I sold some gear in the pre-move downsizing but still brought too much; and am slowly coming to the conclusion that I should probably sell what I just like having and keep what I actually play. I've been selling off gear also. It's my only source of income now, besides SS. And it beats going out and getting a part time job! I won't miss anything that I've sold so far, but I'm on the fence about a couple of guitars I still have. We may be downsizing later this year, and I don't know how much room we'll have afterwards, so that could end up being another factor. But the biggest factor is, I have too much equipment that just doesn't get used any more. Even though I gigged more last year than I ever have (hard to believe, I know!), I can still easily get by with a couple of guitars and amps. The Marshall Studio series really did it for me, and since acquiring two of those, I've sold several amps and a few guitars, with a few more to go. Kinda hoping our next house does have a full basement though! I'm hoping I'll need a bigger band room!

I have no need for a new electric guitar. I'm not gigging, and it doesn't look like I'll be jamming any time soon with my surviving brother, who lives 285 miles away from here. When there were three of us, we would jam on Beatle songs when our families got together at Christmastime.
But I have become deeply smitten with the G & L ASAT with MFD pickups. In butterscotch blonde, of course. L's improvement over his Tele design (ducking for cover).

I did the bulk of my guitar buying years ago when I got a promotion and our daughter was done with college. Most of what I had was bought second hand/ closeout. As a consequence I have some gems and some that just don't get used much, but I haven't unloaded those, generally out of laziness. What I have found is that often the ones I don't use much can be brought to life by some simple tweaking. I guess over time I will consolidate the herd by selling several guitars in order to buy better single models.

"I don't need any more gear " As it turns out, I haven't needed any new gear since the first guitar I bought. Nothing I bought afterwards made me a better player. But that didn't stop me from buying more.

I can't believe the really nice guitars going unsold here in Colorado on CL. A '66 Strat, a '68 D-21, and a bunch of less expensive but great guitars. I posted a couple myself and got zero action. But I sold them both quickly on the AGF.
