There are so many layers of this movie that just tear me up. What great story.

It's given the world at least a couple of dandy quotes as well.

Just for the record, I didn't like Forest Gump. YMMV.

Depends on how old you were when Canada went metric, Auf. I was around nine, so I'm ambidextrous. Well, sort of ambidextrous. I'm fine with kilometres vs. miles, but I still mostly think in yards/feet rather than metres/centimetres. I use Celsius for sub-zero temps and those around the freezing point. Once you get past six or seven degrees, Celsius means nothing me. I need Farenhiet. I start relating to Celsius again somewhere in the mid-20s. It's funny how habits of mind imprint when you're young. I was born in the U.S. and moved to Canada when I was six. Even more than 50 years on, "zed" sounds wrong to me. It's "zee" or nothing.

Jenny is on the list of the biggest movie a-holes of all time. It’s either her or Grandpa Joe from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

But, I done think I have seen anything eith Ylm Hanks that was not good stuff When we got our first VCR, my wife went to a video rental store, and the clerk told her that anything with Tom Hanks is good. And this was back in the '80s.

Many years ago I thought my Dad would really enjoy this film. And he did, except for the Viet Nam scenes, and particularly the scene when the rain stopped and Forrest and his unit got immediately hit with mortar fire. Dad had to leave the room. He served with the 1st Cavalry over there and he said later that that particular scene hit a little too close to home. I felt horrible afterwards. He never talked about his military service except for loads of funny stories for the most part. I knew he had been wounded a couple times and some other things he told me about but it wasn't until much later and a very serious surgery that he started opening up about some of his other experiences over there.
By the way, the books are really funny and the whole "life is like a box of chocolates" thing was completely mangled for the movie.

It's given the world at least a couple of dandy quotes as well. Whenever I go down the hall to the bathroom, I say "Ah gotta pay." (That's what Forrest said after drinking a case of Dr. Pepper.)

Somewhere there’s a picture of me sitting on the bench in Savannah. My wife and I were in Savannah in 2015. We didn't think to find a park bench and maybe take a selfie. But then, we were on a trip with a church group following an itinerary anyway.

But then, we were on a trip with a church group following an itinerary anyway. We were on a walk on, walk off trolley tour, and they identified it as “the bench” as we drove by. So later we went back and took the pictures of each of us sitting there.
