Why why why are you trying to turn a Tele into a Les Paul Custom?

It's not Gibson scale.

I haven’t had to answer to this question for a long time.

Fender ain't the company it was back when I first got to know the guys involved back in the late 1990's.

Can you do it under $600 ?
I know you can, the J5 is proof of that.

That is hideous.

Sadly, I don’t own any Fenders. I’ve built all my Strats and Teles. And I will probably continue that practice.

Put a regular tele neck on it, make it $800 and I'd think it was great.

I think it's extremely cool ! They are still making all sorts of regular Telecasters, so they are just offering another choice. What's wrong with that ?

Why not? However, I hope Fender was paying attention to Gibson over the past five years. Gibson dug its own grave with too many expensive feature-laden wooden shovels, and they came *this close* to falling into it.

I think it's cool along with the other Parallel Universe series. Fender's actually late to the game. Dennis Fano has made a career of hybrid models. Sh*t has to evolve

I'd buy it! But I like traditional and (yes I'm a little strange!) non traditional Strat's and Tele's.

Just saw the Alternate Reality Electric XII. I’ve had pangs of regret since I sold my 1966 Electric XII. Aside from the fretboard wood, finish, and switch (the originals had a four position rotary switch), they look dead on. Now I really want to try it out.

I’m waiting for the Transformer line of guitars that actually change from Tele to Strat to Les Paul to ES-335.

Should have had a thick carved maple cap. Then it would weigh like a LP Custom. Of course a two pickup sunburst Standard would sound better.

Very much like the J5 Triple that I had briefly. The J5 had a Strat bridge/tremolo vs the Bigsby. I just can't get with the three pickups. My pick always hit the middle pickup, which I found very annoying. It was indeed a heavy guitar. The pickups themselves were not to my taste either. Eventually sold it off. While the looks of that Alt Univ do appeal to me, I won't be plunking my money down. reverb.com/item/20112478-fender-j5-triple-tele-deluxe-john-5-signature-telecaster-2010-s-black

It's no worse than any other guitar Fender (or Gibson) have ever produced. It's a new choice on the market, an extra lane on the highway. You could argue we've gained little but we've lost nothing. I don't understand why people get bent outta shape over this.

I like it, but I confess that I am an electric guitar junkie and love all sorts and shapes and configurations. Some look better than others, but for me the only ugly ones are the ones that are simply not well made, good playable instruments.

I think it’s a fine looking guitar. Obviously we’ll equipped. And I’m not really a Fender guy, as my three teles and one bass are all G&L.

I really like another Fender Telecaster that strays in to Gibson territory. I have one that was my main gigging guitar for years. Bound, set neck, dual buckers but Fender scale. A real mutt but I love these things: FMT HH Tele

Looking forward to see Gibson use the Les Paul as a basis for a telecaster type guitar, black pickguard in butterscotch.
