I mailed one payment on 12/14 and another on 12/18. Received overdue notices from both vendors. When I called to say that I mailed check on time I was told that they most of their accounts are overdue and everyone is saying the same thing. Is the Post Office shut down for Covid?

So is UPS, apparently. I shipped an amp to CA on the 28th and it's due to arrive on....lemmeesee.....today!

I sent a 12" drum shell via priority mail from Vegas to LA a couple of days ago.
Tracking indicates it could take until mid month to arrive.

According to the local news, the USPS was expected to handle an extra billion packages this year because of more people doing more holiday shopping online because of COVID. I had first class items take just shy of a month to reach their destination.
I have one incoming package, sent December 14, that has been in Pennsylvania since December 18. That's the last one I am waiting on.
The delay has been noticeably worse for First Class over Priority.

My wife ordered some stocking stuffer-type Christmas presents for the grandkids from particular vendor on Nov. 4. They arrived Dec. 26. Not sure if the problem was with the vendor or the delivery company. They weren't expensive and we assumed they were pirated off the porch.

I sold my vinyl record collection to a guy in Arizona. I shipped a box or 60 LP's via USPS Media Mail on Dec. 8th and he finally got them the 28th. Media Mail usually takes one to two weeks but this last one was really slow.

Some of the folks I've sent Christmas cards to are letting me know that they just recently got them.

In regards to the mailing the check, and I may be overstepping my bounds, but most will allow online payment either by debit card or check. I understand some of the trepidation over posting your banking info on a random webpage, but when they receive your check they input those same numbers either manually or by using a reader, so the numbers are out there anyway. When you put them out there you generally have the ability to authorize a specific date of payment as well.

Oh I pay online whenever I can, no worries there, but some people I do business with are still old school.

I no longer pay any bills with a check that can be paid online. My last order of 4 boxes of checks may last me 10 years, as I believe it’s just two checks a month (dancing school and the landscaper) that require a check.
Of course, there are occasional additional checks thrown in there at times, but most places, even my daughter’s school, and her theater program, take some kind of electronic payment.
The school, during COVID, now only takes electronic payments. And charges a “convenience fee” for the privilege. I don’t find the fee very convenient.

This can't be an area issue. I can't tell you how many things I've ordered from various places all over the country over the past year using all the usual delivery services and only had an issue that just took a little longer than usual to get to me. In the past three days, I've received items from USPS and FedEx. All ordered and received on time and surprisingly, one delivery from FedEx on this last Sunday. I wave my magic delivery wand in your all's direction.

We discussed this recently here at some length: moestavern.freeforums.net/thread/4579/lost-delayed-uspsThese comments probably still largely apply because: 1)-USPS is likely still clearing out "holiday" backlog. 2)-there are probably lots of gifts being returned by mail: remember all the jokes/cartoons in past years about people standing in long lines at department stores to return unwanted gifts? Well, now they're probably being shipped back instead of being returned in person.

It seems that even I am not immune to slow, languishing, delivery. I have something from Amazon that was shipped today that is projected to reach me between the 15 and 20th of January...Sent from California...I'm in Oregon. I'm wondering if Amazon is taking this 'drone' thing to serious or that they have implemented the 'twenty mule team' delivery system to abide green, environmental policy. I also have another thing coming from Amazon ordered at the same time which I will receive by this Friday which will be coming from the the mid west somewhere. Well, at least Amazon informed me of a delivery date.

I have had zero delivery delays. I’ve had some where the scheduled delivery date was obviously padded for a worst case scenario but they all arrived much earlier. I ordered a new pair of boots from Rockport this morning, we’ll see how quickly they get delivered. The post office has been doing very well here too. I have no complaints. I write 2-3 checks a month on average to businesses that don’t accept digital payment and those checks have had no issue getting where they need to go. I have no doubt that some areas experience delays but it is not happening everywhere.

i thought i submitted this already but i don't see it... i'll try again.
i did a lot of Christmas shopping on line in Nov... i thought there might be a pile-up at the post office so i wanted to beat the crowd...
all but two items came quickly... one is still AWOL, the other was delivered YESTERDAY!!! that's the puzzle... this particular order was thru Amazon but was supplied by an Amazon associate store. they were late in shipping n the beginning, i rx'd notice that "due to covid, shipping is slower than normal"... ok... i understand that... after a couple of weeks i rx'd a msg from the USPS that they'd rx'd notice from that company to pick up the package, a label had been printed and they included a tracking number.
time passes and i check once in a while but it hasn't moved... in late Dec i get a msg from the USPS that the package has probably been lost... i didn't get around to cancelling until Jan 3rd though. I logged into Amazon and went thru the return process...
here's the ODD PART... the very next day, i receive notice from the USPS that the package is in transit!!! i get it yesterday!!! too bad, i already filled out the return forms, printed the label, and it's on the way back. i bought something else to replace it and it's no longer wanted.
the other package, my wife called about and they're hunting for it.
i can still get NEXT DAY delivery from AMAZON though...

I ordered a gift for my wife the first week of Dec. Tracking says it's been in Indiana for a couple weeks. I did get a status update yesterday, so maybe they've got something unclogged. I figure it's a 50/50 shot if I ever see it.

I was in the very slow line at the PO yesterday. An old lady behind me started yelling at the poor overworked clerk behind the counter. As if it's her fault. There used to be two or three of them, now it's just one.
It's getting ugly out there, folks. People are fed up.

I sent a 12" drum shell via priority mail from Vegas to LA a couple of days ago. Tracking indicates it could take until mid month to arrive. The USPS station that serviced my address when I lived in Las Vegas was never very good (and that's being kind). I moved to Arizona a couple of years ago and, coincidentally (or not) things are quite a lot better. I now get a daily "this is what to expect in your mail today" email, courtesy the USPS. Recently, there have been a couple of caveats included in said email, though: Delivery may be delayed 1) Due to unusually heavy mail demands (starting to sound like every business's recent prerecorded customer service phone message lol) 2) Because of staff shortages due to Covid

We use to have a great mail carrier. He was a Bob Marley type, always had a beautiful smile and coolness about him. A few years back he said "they" were taking him off our route and moving him to a different route. Didn't know why, just they way it is. It was a sad day for me. As far as delivery he went above and beyond. Always accurate, no miss delivery. Once in a while he'd joke about his work...say man your next issue of Guitar Player has Jimmy Page on the cover, I should be finished with it in the next day or two. We both laughed. Our current carrier is a meh. Wrong address delivery every month, no personality.

Funny how my dad would send cards from Arlington Tx. 12 miles away and we would not get them for 5 days but my sister in Houston 285 miles away got them in 2 days. Happened often.

I got a bill for my auto insurance on Jan. 4th. It was due on the 5th. I mailed it on the 5th. I got an email on the 7th telling me it was overdue. It's always something! I have never been late with payment on my auto insurance. EVER! Not even once in the last 32 years I have been with that company. You'd think that would be worth something. I'm sure the USPS was the reason the bill was so late. That qualifies as "Beyond My Control."
I am one of those old die-hard "pay the bill with a check" guys. They don't need my banking information. I don't mind writing a check once a month to pay my bills. If anything ever happened where some kind of late fee or inaccurate charge were to ever be levied against my account they would hit it immediately for payment even if it was an error. Then it would take days or weeks of phone calls and hassle to get it reversed. If they don't have my account information they can't do that. So, neener neener neener. They have to deal with me directly to get paid.
