Acquired a new Gibson SG '61 Reissue a few months back. The pickup selector switch (I presume) appears to have become faulty.
Here is what I'm seeing:
When I move the switch to the middle or neck position I am getting no sound from the neck pickup. If I roll the volume back and forth I will occasionally get a little crackle of sound but that's about it.
Took the back plate off and the contact point on the neck pickup portion of the switch is making physical contact (so it is not a mechanical issue).
Spoke with Sweetwater, they recommended trying some contact cleaner which I will try (they are sending me some, I don't have any on hand). If that doesn't work then they said bring it to a local shop and have a new switch put in - my 'local' shop is 45 minutes away and I'm not enamored with their work.
Would like to just fix this at home if I could. Anyone have any thoughts?

Try cleaning it for sure... dirt is the most likely thing, though I'm not positive on it.
If the volume pot for the neck pickup is able to make noises, that tells me it probably isn't the switch. The switch would turn off the volume pot as well and it would be incapable of making noise. Also, it isn't a short because a short would kill the volume for the bridge pickup in the middle position.
Try this: in the middle position with the bridge volume up, turn the volume of the neck pickup down. Normally this would short out the whole circuit and you lose both pickups. If you DO lose both pickups, it means the neck pickup is in the circuit, which means it isn't the switch. If the volume control is doing nothing, that is a good sign that it is something with the switch. The extra good news there is that the likelihood of it needing replacing after the cleaning are very slim.
If you still have nothing, it is an open circuit. Could be a solder joint, could be a bad pickup, could be something else.
