Nike missiles, I thought you were talking about a Nike shoe factory.
I never knew they were there

There were a half dozen or so Nike bases around the area.

I remember the NIKE base in Orland Park, IL.
Nobody really thought it a big deal.
The Fortune 100 corporation I worked for was headquartered in MKE so I was there frequently on business. Fun city.

I've been there a couple times. The people are very friendly. And they call the drinking fountain a "bubbler." Weird, eh? Well.....it IS a bubbler.

Milwaukee is a city on the rebound. My 96 year old mother still lives there, and we maintain a condo on the east side (best part of the city in which to live).
Milwaukee is a classic rust belt town -- had a large blue collar manufacturing base that pretty much all went bust. It took a long time, but culturally it's now a pretty cool place to live. Good restaurants, lots of cultural activities -- a new hall for the symphony, SummerFest just announced its line up, a ballet company, small venues for live music, the entire lakefront is public parks and beaches (thank Milwaukee's Socialist mayors for preventing private development), great municipal golf courses and parks (again, the Socialists had their hands in that), the Milwaukee Rep has two stages, and the wonderful, historic Pabst Theater.
The city has two major universities, Marquette and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. My grandfather (RIP) and mother are both Marquette grads. I've attended programs at the law school and facilities are pretty good.
Marquette is located west just a little bit from downtown (a short walk, actually), not the greatest area, but lots of people around all the time so not extra dangerous.
Public transportation is good.
Milwaukee Magazine just announced the winner in its Best Pizza in Milwaukee competition for 2021 -- so if you are in town, check Zaffiro's on Farwell on the east side near Brady Street. It's a local favorite of ours, located two blocks or so from our Milwaukee condo.
....... and if you visit, a MUST STOP is Usinger's factory store on Third Street just half a block or so north of State Street, near downtown. Usinger's sausages are the best anywhere -- My faves are their Farmer's Summer Sausage, knockwurst, and frankfurters with skins .... but pretty much, you can't go wrong.
So I'd be thumbs up for Marquette. It is a good choice.

I used to work at a spice company, we made the spice mixes for both those brands, when they would come by to pickup their spice orders they would always bring some fresh beef sticks, summer sausage and such. Yum!

There used to be an old large 3 story "abandoned house" next to the railroad tracks in St. Francis, oddly we used to see army occasional go there, so we finally decided to break in there late one night and see what the hell was in there, it was full of old army supplies, those big old walkie talkies, field phones and such. We got the hell out of there fairly quick once we realized we could be in hot water for breaking in.

Milwaukee also has the Brewers at Miller Park (now American Family field) and minor league hockey with the Admirals. The east side Brady Street neighborhood, Third Ward just south of downtown near the lake, and Bay View/Kinnickinnic Avenue area on the south side are all happening. Milwaukee is also known for frozen custard -- check Kopps which is my favorite. But others prefer Leons or Gilles, all yummy. For ribs, my favorite is Pitch's Lounge on the east side, but there's also Saz's and Speed Queen BBQ for take away. Real Chili is a Marquette hangout, and George Webb's serves burgers all night. Water Street from State Street north of downtown has bars everywhere (take your pick). Milwaukee has a large Mexican population (Mexico has a consulate a block from our east side condo), so Mexican food in the city is really good. My fave is a little family joint called Guanajuato on the south side. There is also surprisingly good middle eastern (Casablanca on Brady Street and my fave, Shahrazad, on Oakland Avenue just south of Locust) and Greek food (the Apollo on Brady Street and an all time low-cost student fave, Oakland Gyros on the corner of Oakland Avenue and Locust Street). www.guanajuatomke.com

I ate a lot of Lunches (chili dogs) at Leons when I went to Pulaski High school. I went to RW Emerson elementary and Marshall high. No chili dogs. But there was a tastee freeze... There was a bar restaurant close by that had Roger McCluskey's car hauler in it several times a year.
