I've got the Artist model and the Waza craft speaker that came with it is probably the best speaker I've ever had in any amp ever.

I tend to think the speaker that's in there is the best one for the amp and cabinet. I tried this years ago with the Roland Microcube, Peavey Bandit III, and Line 6 Spider, and always went back to the original speaker. Some were very expensive speakers too.
Swapping speakers in a modern SS amp is like flipping a coin and losing most of the time because modern amp cabinets (even open-backs) are meticulously designed to match the T-S parameters of the speaker going into it. There is much more acoustics engineering in modern SS amps than there was on tube amps.
Older designs like Fender, Vox, etc., and even modernized SS versions of their classic designs, are not so perfectly matched. That's why a speaker swap in these can sometimes make the amp sound better.

I preferred my Vypyr 75 with a different speaker. The one that came with the amp was too hi-fi, IMO.
From what I heard from the Katana series, I don’t know that I’d bother.

Many of these amps have an Aux In capability that sends full range to the speaker...but the guitar amplificator side has filtering to keep things optimized for guitar. That's why the speakers are sometimes hi-fi.

My Katana 50 might sound better with the Waza. Unless the Waza gets a bit cheaper (list is about what I paid for my Katana) it shall remain a thought. Cheaper than a Celestion Blue of course but vs. the $183 I paid brand-new for my Katana it is sort of lipsticking the pig.

I bought an Eminence Red Coat Ramrod 10 to "upgrade" the factory speaker (also Eminence) in my Tech 21 TM-30. I removed it faster than the time it took to install it.
The TM-30 isn't a modeling amp, but it is designed to be able to voice Tweed, Blackface and British sounds through the full-range guitar speaker.

I swapped out speakers in some old Peavey Vypyr 15s I fooled around with. Rebaffled and installed 10" speakers for small gigs. Had a Celestion Vintage 10 in one and a Jensen RI in another. They didn't sound better for the over-the-top models, but the more classic models sounded better. And due to their higher efficiency they were noticeably louder.
I did try swapping 12's in some other modelers but the replacement speakers added some different color to the amps which was not necessarily an improvement.

Maybe, but "some pigs receive a big benefit" and I have been known to do this when I couldn't afford getting something better at the time and upgrading in some cases did not seem such a bad choice if say a several months to a year or more. I try to do it on a case by case basis as some of my "pig upgrade" purchases were not so great cost per benefit wise. However, reading this was timely for me as I had this in the back of my mind for sometime later maybe as I put some setting updates from others into my new Katana and amp sounding a little dark tonally. But after reading about the Waza speaker being the best option for the Katana instead of changing the Waza speaker I am going to learn a bit more and make changes that I become aware of. |

It's 8 ohms and gave me great overall sound and thought maybe if I put this in my amp, maybe the clean tone would be better, as I use a pedalboard for all my effects. I do use some of the gain channels for distortion at louder levels, but all my other sounds are clean with pedal effects added.
Because the Texas Heat provides really good clean tone and it's 8 ohms, I think that it might be a great option.

Okay fellas, first off: I did the speaker swap and believe that the EMI Texas Heat speaker is a winner!
1st: I use the FxFloorboard Big Twin setting for my clean sound and have a real Twin Reverb amp to compare it with. With the Boss Waza 12" speaker that setting always seemed a little bit harsh and not as full or round in its sound.
You have to also use the Boss Tone Studio to edit the signal chain of the effects order to get a more realistic sound. I used the effects chain editor and placed the input directly into the amp. It has 3 modes of order. I used No.1.
Using the other modes produced some underlying distortion, no matter how low the gain levels were!! Bizarre.... even with the speaker swap it was still there?? So, with the effect chain changes, it went away and sounded clear and very tube like.
With my other settings, the amp sounded more like a real tube amp and am pleased at how much this speaker has given it a great overall sound.
Overdrives are smoother and and have more detail and pick response. Distortion characteristics are easier to dial in and reverbs have more depth.
It just made this amp really shine and gave it an entirely a new life!
As I said, I'm in the honeymoon phase right now but I believe that this amp with this speaker are a winning combination.

In addition to the Wazacraft speaker being an awesome choice so is the Eminence Legend 1258. Just tried it with my Katana Artist amp. It is less than half the cost, Rated at 70 watts RMS and 101db sound pressure rating. The WazaCraft is rated slightly over 100 watts at around 99 db so the Eminence is noticably louder played side by side together.

I noticed a vast improvement when I changed the order of my input by placing the input directly into the amp and then on to the effects. This way it cleaned up the input signal and made the cleans really clear, as I was getting some unwanted distortion. I mentioned earlier what and how I changed the order into the amp and was very happy with the results.
Go into the Boss Tone Studio and change your input staging and see how much better your clean channel will sound.
I did this because I was getting some unwanted distortion from how the input order was affecting the guitar, no matter how low I set the gain. At first I thought I had blown my speaker due to the funky distortion but once I changed the input order, all was better, but the speaker swap really brought out the clean sound and was very comparable to my real Twin Reverb amp. Truly wonderful and powerful clean sound that I thought I would never get from my Artist amp!!

Cal-Woody, I am in the Boss Tone Studio. I selected Chain but I can't figure out how to move the position of the input directly to amp then to the effects. All I seem to be able to do is Select Chain 1, Chain 2, Chain 3 and Chain 4...so what am I missing here? I just went back and viewed a how to video and concerning Chains it just showed clicking between them. I am guess we are talking on the same page.

Hey LTB-You're correct as far as using Chain 1. It shows the guitar input into the amp, where Chain #2 shows Distortion or other assignment before the amp. That is what I did to get a better clean sound. Try it, as I had difficulty achieving a Good Solid clean sound without some sort of underlying distortion or something that made my amp sound like it had a speaker getting ready to blow! Seriously...
Because when I wanted my Clean Tone, Chain #2 always added some breakup to the sound, even when dialing down the gain prior to the amp input. I'm not currently sitting in front of the Tone Studio to more exacting to what I'm saying but you are correct to pick Chain #1 by selecting it, then remember to save it or it automatically reverts to the previous or default setting. Hope your results are as mine were.
