I recall in the early 2000's when I first pulled up a stool at Moe's for a quick pint - it was customary for new folks to introduce themselves briefly and usually a regular would buy them a beverage and everyone would shout cheers.
Always thought that was a clever and welcoming way to encourage new people to stick around and feel part of the community. Not sure how to 'start' a habit like that but as the New Moe's looks to build it's patronage it might be a fun way to get more people engaged.
Even as a contributing member I was never particularly active or known but Moe's was always an island of calm in the maelstrom of the internet.
Anyway - thanks to all of you who have put in so much time and effort to help open up the new Moe's. Grateful to have a quiet space to sip a beer from time to time.
Next round is on me.
Cheers

There was a "roll call" thread here early on but it sank down the pages. A head shave by ISL (Frank?) was also part of the FDP tradition along with a Duff's.

Yes, It was an interesting and welcoming touch of instant comradery.
I had my head shaved by ISL.

Seems like very few of the new signups jump into the conversation. I’ve even reached out to welcome people and to find out how they found us now, but they never respond.
Probably don’t want their heads shaved.

I found the FDP a bit late compared to many, it was about 2007. A very unique and expressive group of people for sure. Difficult to wrap one's head around if you were not there at the time. The best part is those people (remaining at the end) are the core of this group.

I was too fast and he couldn’t catch me for the head-shave. Now I’m slow and have little hair.

It seemed we had a period early on when a flurry of old departed FDP alumni showed up here, then quickly vanished.

If we're going to adopt an official, MT2 greeting (and uniform) I nominate this:

If we're going to adopt an official, MT2 greeting (and uniform) I nominate this: We should have hats that are required for posting. I'm not SAYING they should be giraffe printed, but I mean if that's what everybody wants...

I remember the greetings, but I don't know if it started before or after my arrival in '01. I spent quite a bit of time here before I ventured into Moe's however and I never did announce my arrival since I'd been around the forum for over a year prior to that. I started out 100% gear forums 0% Moe's, then about 50/50 now I'm 99% Moe's and virtually no time in the other rooms.
I still play guitar, but I'm not gigging anymore so I don't spend near the time tweaking my rig.
I will say this. I've always appreciated the friendly atmosphere here and the variety of wit, knowledge, wisdom etc here seems to know no bounds.
I'm up for renewing the greetings, but it is kind of dependent upon the new visitors to introduce themselves (unless the mods want to announce their arrival, which I have seen on some groups in Facebook).
Giraffe hat? Only if there's an official Moe's version....(hint, hint). I prefer mine with maple dots and vintage radius with a matching bill.

Tin foil coon skin caps?
Is that even possible?

A bit off topic, but I have a photo I wish I could use as my icon shot to the left.
The problem is it's a color slide form back in my Kodachrome days.
It's not a giraffe ... it's a different sort of long neck.

I'm still holding out for a secret de-coder ring and a cardboard bandstand if I sell enough Cloverine brand salve.

I started on FDP in 2001. I didn’t frequent Moe’s as much as o do now rather spent most of my time in other areas. I have noticed a lot of newcomers but little contribution of posts from them. I would like any newcomer reading this to join in

I’ve said it before, I don’t understand why anyone joins a discussion forum and then doesn’t...discuss.

Hi everyone, While I don't often post, This is my go to spot after Emails and greatly appreciate it. My guitar playing is only occasional, I'm only a beginner at my age 64 and seem to be letting that go. Maybe get into it after retirement.

Not sure what year I joined the FDP, but I think it was early on. After Steve Manes closed "The Bottom Line" I tried to hang in Steve Dunbar's "Dude Pit", but that didn't last long...

Much like Kirk stated above, I don't post much but I read this site pretty much every day. There's a civility, camaraderie and good-natured humor here that has always been encouraging to me, especially since that seems to be increasingly rare both on the internet and in "real life." I've learned a lot here, and am grateful to have received so much help choosing a soldering station a few months ago.

As stated in an earlier post I followed but never joined the FDP site for about 15yrs or so mostly the gear side of it. Learned a lot from it, made upgrades to my gear with the knowledge from it. Speaker changes, amp mods ( FritzMod to my DRRI).etc. When I saw that FDP was ending and MT2 was taking over I decided to join. I wished I had joined earlier. It's a great place to hang out at. The people here have a wide range of knowledge , they will help you out if they can, the humor here is great and stays away from all that BS that's on other forums. Mike and the mods are doing a great job of managing . It fills the downtime really well (I'm retired, so a lot of downtime). The more that join in conversation the better!

This makes me happy, because it’s the exact vibe we’re going for. The only reason this site exists is because those traits were all cultivated on the FDP, and we had a desire to continue that. You definitely do not find other forums with this level of civility, there are always a few idiots that try to ruin it for everyone. We don’t have that here, and I am grateful for that!

Back in the days of the FDP; all drummers had to wipe their feet, and promise not to break anything, before posting: (A Chris Greene request)
Nowadays, I wipe my feet and wash my hands before posting on Moe's! (progress)
I concur with all of my friends and their thoughts in the previous posts. As previously stated; my background is mechanical, not electrical: (Did I mention my phobia about wires and electricity.) I learn something new everyday when I check Moe's. I jump in when I think I have something worth while to contribute; whether it's worth while is a matter of opinion.
I welcome all who have ideas, questions, or opinions; that is the purpose of this platform. Discussion!

I learned how to reboot my washing machine, how to repair a cracked bedframe, Joe to repair a cracked piece of hardwood flooring, and all kinds of other stuff that saved me time, money and aggravation.
All you need to do is ask and usually, someone here has the answer.
That’s why I encourage everyone to jump into the conversation. I know the people who mostly just read the site have things to contribute.

To LTB and all, I've been a member since early 2000's. This place was especially helpful when putting together a Jaguar from Ebay parts "way back then".

Awesome that you made the trip over!!
I started at the old place in 2007, shortly before the birth of my daughter. Feels like a million years ago at this point!! Made my first deal from the Classified section from a computer in the Labor and Delivery ward.
Took a break for a while when I had some issues, but then came back strong.
