Thanks guys. Surgery went well, but I had to stay overnight because I couldn’t pee. I’m seeing the physical therapist shortly and should be going home today. My incision site is sore, but no leg and hip pain. I’ll post more later as my charger is home. Appreciate the mojo .

So I just got back home a while ago. Surgery went well. The pain right now is worse than I expected, but other than cataract surgery, I haven’t had any real surgery. . After getting the cath treatment after surgery I spent the night getting up to go to the bathroom every 45 minutes only to get another cath treatment at 5am! This time it worked as designed.
I’m limited to only lifting 10 lbs until I see my Dr in a couple weeks . Same with driving. Hopefully the pain will get better each day. Once the pain starts to subside I’ll get back to the business of playing my guitars. My prescription for Percocet should help. Probably start out with my acoustics and maybe my SG. My leg affected by my sciatica seems to already be gone. I really appreciate everyone’s concern and brotherhood.

Well , feeling a little better tonight. I got to take a shower( yay). The surgeon said my incision would be 1inch or so. It’s “so” I guess . My wife took the dressing off and it’s more like 5 inches of staples up my back. No wonder I’m in so much pain . Of course I try to do too much, but apparently “ too much “ isn’t much at all. I have a newfound respect for Percocet.

Can't pee.
I remember after a major injury requiring surgery I woke up with a cath. I was adamant that it get removed. The nurse shook her head and said if I didn't pee within 6 hours it was going back in.
Well you know the rest. Ouch, even on a morphine drip.
Heal fast.

That's great! That is quite an achievement losing that sciatic nerve pain. Take it slow and steady getting back into shape.

Glad you're feeling a little better with the Percocet.

Glad you're feeling a little better with the Percocet. Thanks bro. I guess there’s a reason my wife wasn’t a carpenter. She measured it ant it’s almost 3.5 inches. Definitely bigger than expected. Something I’m surely going to ask him about. The good news is since the surgery there has been no pain at my right hip down my leg and the numbness at my toes are gone. The surprise was how sore my lower buttocks and legs were and are. It’s like not working out your lower half of your body and going full tilt all of a sudden. I’m guessing from using those muscles to lift my body out and in a chair and bed. That pain hurt worse than the actual incision. Now that that pain is starting to subside, I am getting around a lot better. I imagine each day will get better . Tomorrow I hope to go for a small walk outside . I still can’t bend over, but can do more things than yesterday. Guitar playing unfortunately is off the table right now, but hopefully soon. Not really feeling it anyways.

Hey I'm right there with you, I went for surgery on my thumb on Thursday last week. The surgeon said about 3 stitches, when I took off the surgery dressing on Sunday, 9 stitches and a bigger incision than expected. I guess that's why they PRACTICE medicine! LOL!

My rehab has been progressing pretty well I think. Last night I slept over 9 hrs. I didn’t have to get up for a bathroom break either. Yesterday my wife and I went for a walk around the block. Today I went for a walk around 2 blocks and will probably go for a shorter one later if I feel like it. We went to Lowe’s to pick some things up today .
I’ve been backing off of my Percocet . Early on I was taking at least 1 every 4 hrs. Yesterday I took 3 all day and only 1 at bedtime until my customary 2. Today I just took my first one after we got back from the store and will probably wait til bedtime to take my next one. The pain hasn’t been bad today. Maybe a 2 and a 3-4 when I got back from my store. I’m really looking forward to putting this behind me tbh,but it appears the initial pain in my leg is gone . Hopefully this gives me my quality of life back.

My ex had the same surgery at L4 and L5. It took about an hour or so from the time she went in until the time she came out. The incision was covered by a regular band aid and she got complete relief.
Hope you do as well!

Been doing pretty good I think. I haven’t had a Percocet since Sunday night. My pain is actually not bad. I’ve been walking twice a day outside. I’m up to about 3/4 a mile each time. I have an appointment Friday to hopefully get my staples out and drive. I still can’t bend over and it’s a bit frustrating that my wife is doing so much . All in all I feel like my recovery is going well although I wish I was sleeping better.

So I got my staples out this am. What a relief. I feel so much better now than I did last night. Not really any pain to speak of and the doctor doesn’t see any need to have me come for another visit. No limitations except what my body dictates. I’ve been walking almost 2 miles a day already. As tough as it was right after my surgery , it was so worth it . The pain going down my leg was awful and prevented me from doing a lot. It’s good to have my life back. I signed up for a short stint of physical therapy just to get things back in working order.
