...for retirement.
Two that come to mind:
•"unprecedented"
•"taken out of context"
Stop, already...please.
After all, current use of the word "unprecedented" is utterly unprecedented.

Starting any sentence with "Look"

Starting any conversation with the word "So,".
It might be cool to watch all the jeopardy re-runs and just watch after the first commercial, when the host interviews the contestant, and see who starts with "so," and see if they won the match.

Another vote for starting a statement with "Look". It signals condescension in whoever says it.

Literally. But, only in its non-literal usage.
Reckoning.

Drives me crazy. We already know you don’t have kids, your pets are not your kids. Nor are they “practice” for when you have a kid. It’s not even close to the same thing.

Don’t want to cause trouble.
I’ll take a second bite at it....
and second ‘the new normal’.

Preamble As in "my preamble includes putting on my shoes and socks"
"That's what you are, what am I?" The conclusive end of an argument
"You just can't make this stuff up." Actually, you can and the guy saying this often does.
"I know, right?" Translation: I've just revealed my inability to come up with something original
"That came out of left field." Nothing ever comes out of left field.
"You are what you eat." This would make a vegan a vegetable. Hey, wait a minute ......

•"N'way!": short for "no way" or "I find that difficult to believe."
•"Way!": uttered as a rebuttal to "n'way!".
Into the dust bin with both of 'em!

I really do hate the ‘new normal’.
There’s a defeatist ring to it.

"awesome" Most things are not really "awesome"
The Grand Canyon is awesome. Back in the day, Sophia Loren was awesome.
Not much else.

A lot of these neologisms may have been clever the first time they were used, but once adopted by the masses quickly became annoying. New Normal is definitely up there, as is "unpack".

Can we just unpack what you were saying about neologisms?
Edited to add that I’m pleased that the word ‘neologism’ first occurred in 1772.

Neologism may be ironic since it's a relatively new word itself.

I did a Wiki dive and an edit.
Apparently 1772 in English and 1734 in French.
Sorry about messing up the timeline.

Hmmm Les, I thought it was a newer term. Ehhh, it is what it is. I didn’t know myself until I checked. I did use Wikipedia so it may really be only 5 years old. It may be early 19th century French apparently. I still dislike most of them. Especially the French ones.

"To be perfectly honest.." (Does that mean by default all other statements are 'dishonest'?")
"Athleticism" (Come on---you got maybe a couple credit hours in English Lit.)

I actually heard somebody say "hella" the other day.
Now, that was "old school".

Hmmm Les, I thought it was a newer term. Ehhh, it is what it is. LOL! When I was in the workforce, on one of our projects the head guy of our client agency would drop by every day and just chat. At some point, every day, he would say "It is what it is." Every day.

Starting any sentence with "Look" I've noticed this trend among the investment banking crowd. I haven't murdered any of them yet but it is probably a matter of time.
