Amazon's system for tracking deliveries is kinda cool -- when it works.
About a week ago I was expecting a package and got the "Out for delivery" notification. I clicked on updates and it displayed a street map of my area. It showed that the driver was about two miles from my house and was two stops away. This was about 11AM. About an hour later I checked back in and the status was "The driver has a few more stops" but still Out for delivery. This went on all day and by 8PM I gave up on it. The next morning I checked status again and it showed it was delivered at 9PM the previous night -- to my next door neighbor. It was documented by a photo of my package on the neighbor's porch.
I'm expecting another package today. An hour ago I checked status -- out for delivery, two stops away, but the map showed the driver about thirty miles from my house. Either that driver is going to have a real easy day or Amazon is lying to me again.

^ I was awaiting a package at work the other day, and was able to see where the truck was at 5pm when I was about to leave. I waited another 5 minutes to receive it, which was the difference between getting it and having it left outside the building and subject to theft.
That is a pretty cool feature, but as you mentioned, it doesn’t always work for every delivery.

The USPS tracking system has become totally unreliable. They have no clue where your delivery is. Don't much seem to care, either.

I miss the days when packages just got here when they got here.
To me, there's nothing more frustrating than looking at the online tracking and watching your package go from Pittsburgh to Omaha and back to Pittsburgh just to be delivered here, 80 miles away from Pittsburgh.

I can't remember a time when the USPS tracking wasn't hot garbage.

it’s always been pretty bad. Usually the only thing you can rely on is when it says it’s delivered. But they mess that up at times too.

Or worse, when it shows as delivered but it's not on your porch.
I had that happen recently, and all I can figure is that it mistakenly went to the neighbor's house, and he brought it over here later when I wasn't looking.

I have ordered stuff and wished I had it now because I wanted to finish a project . Went down to the basement and turned on the computer and saw it was delivered 10 feet away from me as I was holding down the couch cushions and I didn't even know it. My dog was right behind me on the window seat and staring outside and didn't say anything about it. She is usually barking her butt off if a blade of grass blows in the wind within a block of the house. Amazon must have ninjas delivering for them.

I purchased a couple of tank decals for a Harley that were shipped from Soulsbyville, CA on January 16th, and according to USPS tracking, four days later my package has traveled 202 miles to Chico, CA. That right there is some real efficient functioning of the US postal service.

I was expecting a delivery today. I had my car in the garage. I don't think the driver even attempted to deliver it. when I checked tracking at 9:45 I saw a missed delivery attempt at 9:30. There is no way I wouldn't have heard him knock on the door as I was in my recliner in the living room.
Says it is rescheduled for next business day, then lists Tuesday the 26th. I'm pretty livid.
Is Monday some kind of holiday?

The USPS tracking system has become totally unreliable. They have no clue where your delivery is. Don't much seem to care, either. +1 on that. When the USPS tracking site showed an item that I'd ordered hadn't moved from one postal stop in days, I called the local post office. They had NO CLUE above what I was seeing on the internet. At the time I made the observation (to multiple postmasters) that any system than didn't provide updated information wasn't really a tracking system. I never received any response from anyone at USPS. I contacted the business who arranged for the 2nd day delivery and they, evidently, had some words with their local post office. All of a sudden things began happening and, eventually my 2nd day delivery parcel arrived (11 days after having been originally posted). These days they are hedging their bets by placing a caveat atop their "tracking" site ... (paraphrased) As a result of a manpower shortage due to Covid-19, mail delivery may not be yada yada yada..... I suppose it still beats Pony Express delivery times, though lol

I took the pup out to do her business this morning and found a box out for delivery in the middle of my front yard. I approached it with care just because and saw it was for a strange name about 2 blocks away. After we finished our chore I hopped in the truck and took it to the proper address. Dude comes to the door and looked at me like I had stolen it and changed my mind. I said he needed to ask the post office about that . I was trying to figure out how I got it in the first place. I did see a new postal guy driving around like he was lost on the way back home so.....

I’m just waiting until they can tell me that my delivery drone has been tasked and is on its way.
I believe that won’t be too far in the future.

A blind and a shotgun will take care of those pesky drones.

A blind and a shotgun will take care of those pesky drones. That could have been my life saving supply of coffee filters. Thanks. I reckon they will start off with lightweight items. Thankfully, I don’t anticipate transatlantic deliveries.

Precedent has already been set in KY. Some pervert was filming someone's underage girls at a private pool. The girls father shot down the drone. Charges filed then dismissed. We own airspace to 400 feet. Those delivery drones better be following public streets.
