To dispense with the obvious - it's the player not the guitar.
But, if you were shopping around for an acoustic guitar with the intent to focus on blues what's you weapon of choice?

I prefer Gibson-scale guitars for blues. I have a Blueridge, a copy of a J-45 that works very well. Not that I don't use my D-18 for blues sometimes but it just doesn't sound as good to me. Of course there's always a resonator if you wanna go that route.

The resonator is tempting but I've held off for some reason. Assume it will be quite a lot louder than traditional acoustic and I'm not looking for a big sound for playing at home.
For kicks I picked up a used Gretsch G9500 Jim Dandy 24" scale on Reverb. I supposed to be a sound little guitar for $125 and I think it might be fun to play around with for a while. When I get bored I can give it to the boys to mess about with. Probably not the final plan for this but may tide me over until I figure out what it is I'm really looking for.

My Eastman E20P is a nice little blues box. It's a rosewood parlor. The 00 they make would do the job as well.

@moose... I've had a Gold Tone/Paul Beard resonator (wood body) for several years. It's a delightful instrument. I wouldn't call it louder than a standard acoustic. I'd even say it's quieter. Just FYI.

Yeah, I think a short scale Martin, like a 000 or 00 (either Style 18 or 28, depending on whether you like Mahogany or Rosewood) or a J035 or J-45, if you can find a good one.
I also like Martin's 15 series, including their new StreetMaster series. Ignore the StreetMaster's "worn" finish - that turns a lot of people off - but the tone of several of these I've played (and the DSS-15M I own) has been impressive.

The 15 Street Master is kind of what kicked this whole thing off (see my other post in this forum). The worn finish caught my eye and the I started looking into them a bit and thinking what a great blues machine it might be. Those are all interesting options and it would be neat to own a Martin guitar some day. I keep seeing a lot of adds for Orangewood guitars. Anyone tried one out?

Anything that is a bit loud/percussive sounding tends to inspire people to play blues stuff. That is why the old ladder braced stuff has its small cult following, I think.
I'm a big fan of anything with a 00 or 000 body style. I've heard some people get great sounds for blues out of 00-18s, and often over looked great guitar. What I personally love about them is that they sound great all over the neck, so if you are in the habit of playing acoustics more like electrics, they are very friendly.
Trying some different strings can be worth a go. 80/20 strings can sometimes do what phosphors can't.

My 0015, and the Yamaha CSF1M. I’d like to try a Cordoba C10.

I just can’t go for onboard electronics, probably due to my age. A transducer with the lower bout strap button phone plug output doesn’t bother me. The guitar is still basically intact. But the eq box inlaid into the side is a deal killer for me. Though I do understand the convenience for performance.

Seems like a convenient feature if it worked as intended. I was thinking of it as a performance friendly tool, but get your point if I was just playing around the house for myself/friends.

I understand the allure and the evolution. Being primarily a bassist my life experience has been tone and volume control with little else, rare that I’ve used any effects in the signal chain. I play the guitar more and more nowadays, it’s coming up on a year since the band broke up do to a members death. If I desire a change I switch guitars, haven’t plugged in the Tele in years.
My most recent bass is a small bodied acoustic, it has the plastic box installed on the upper side and I can honestly see it’s usefulness, but this instrument, though functionally acoustic with maybe one other guitar, it was purchased primarily to present the appearance of acoustic with the ability to control the volume mix in various venues. A year ago I used it with stealthily hiding away the Phil Jones Double four in a canoe pack basket, the venue was a pre-1840 camp, of course their were no bass guitars then, neither were their Dreadnoughts or jumbos. No one noticed I was plugged in, I EQ’ed it so it just fit into the mix. My buddies who knew said it sounded very natural. The guy playing next to me leading the sets and lead vocals never had a clue until the very end, when he glimpsed the slight blue LED in the basket. I told him it was my emotional support basket, he laughed and thanked me for playing the whole evening with him.

I have the Tonewood Amp. Pretty fun to have around the house, haven't ever tried sending it into an amp. I will say that it's something that I don't use all that often as it takes away from the acoustic guitar experience, makes me feel like I'm playing an electric. Considering that I had to buy a K&K to go with it, I was already half way to the price of that Yamaha. Hmm...

If you are throwing autowah on an acoustic guitar... might as well grab the electric! It's still amazing what sort of technology is coming out these days. I think for fingerpicking blues I'd just want a little room reverb, something that Yamaha delivers.

When I'm in the mood for it it's great. That Yamaha looks pretty cool and not very pricey. I'd like to check one out.
