I don't know if this has ever been asked previously, does anybody play their electric through an acoustic amp? I have been playing my Fender American strat into my Fender acoustasonic jr for the last couple of years "not gigging" and I think the clean tone is great. I also use an MXR Distortion + at times which works out well. Its been my goto set up in the family room and plenty loud for the house.

I have done this occasionally through my Acoustasonic Jr also- great clean tone. I have been concerned about blowing the tweeter in the past so I always keep the volume down- probably a non-issue in reality.

A few years ago I took my Fishman Loudbox 100 to a gig and played the whole gig with my pedals through it. All I'm going to say is...…. I never did it again

I used my Acoustic Image Ten2 with a Strat when I needed to play rock-type solos in a concert situation. It sounded like a Twin Reverb with the volume at 4 to 5. If I needed high gain sounds I used some of my distortion pedals with a touch of compression. The Ten2 being small was practically invisible unless you sat far in the rear of the hall or in the balcony.

I've played my Strat and PRS through my SWR Strawberry Blonde a couple of times at home. The tone was not that bad but not what I was looking for, so I am keeping my policy: electric amps are for electric guitars and acoustic amps are for acoustic guitars.

I can make do if I have the pedalboard in such cases (same as with a bass amp for that purpose) - if it's loud and clean I can make it hate me.

I have an evil experiment in mind along these lines. I need to solder up a wiring harness first. Then I will report.
Not exactly an acoustic amp, but a different approach.

I Have a Fender G DEC 3 Thirty and it has several acoustic amp settings I use them quite a lot with a jazz box two humbuckers, or a strat. Very clean and even sounding. The amp can also do a Jazz Master amp and with it is also clean but a bit of a mid bump in sound. I use pedals to get my other sounds I want including a Tube OD which will give me a Tube breakup sound out of the solid state or digital amps.

The only acoustic amp I ever had was a Marshall Acoustic Soloist AS80R. This was a very high spec combo, no longer made, not to be confused with the later AS50 and AS100 models. The AS80R had three channels: one for acoustic guitar, one for a microphone and one described as for either acoustic or electric guitar. I did a few small gigs with it and it was great. Then for band use I switched to plugging my acoustics direct into the PA and hearing them back through the monitors, so I sold the Marshall.

It was quite a while ago when I noticed guitarist started using bass amps. When I traded off my old Fender Bassman 4X10 it was guitar guys that were interested. I would say that acoustic guitar amps are not a lot different than the old bass amps though today they can do more with EQ. I use my bass amps for acoustic guitar exclusively, often the GK 150. The Tele I run through and old Vibro Champ occasionally, though it hasn't seen daylight in the last year or so.
Back in he 60s even into the 80s I considered bass amps, that I could almost afford, as primarily guitar amps. It wasn’t until I purchased the SWR 220 Goliath , 4 by 10 combo that I considered it a usable bass amp, I still have this combo. The older Ampeg was a good bass amp too, I’ld love to have one, my first bass amp was the Fender Baseman 50 watt with 2, 12s I think, still the bass over drove the speakers.
Last week I was playing the Yamaha CSF1M through the GK 150, I ran it through the L.R. Baggs PARA Acoustic DI. Then replaced the PARA with the SansAmp Bass DI, I got usable EQ, sounded fine to me, I may even Prefer the Bass DI’s tone and simplicity.

I played Strats through an Acoutic Image Ten2 a few years back. The Ten2 is mostly used by bassists but it is used by jazz guitarists as well. For playing rock-style solos I plugged in analog pedals to achieve the sound I wanted. The 800 watt Class D amp was surprisingly warm.
