Hi guys, my understanding was that the Fender American "Professional" series replaced the American Standard series. I have an American Standard Strat and want a new American Tele. I'm just a bit unclear....is the Professional II series replacing the original Professional series or just another option with different features? Both series are available, but it seems the color choices on the Professional are limited which leads me to believe they may be discontinued. Any thoughts on this? Do you have one or the other? How do you like it? Happy Valentine's Day!

First things first, I am a bassist. This is all coming from that vantage point.
If I am not mistaken, I thought the Pro II is going to replace the Pro.
I do not have one, but I like the look of the 5-string P and have slight interest in the dark night P. I do not have a bass strung with flats, so maybe that will be my excuse.
Maybe.
At least with the basses, there had been some complaints about the pickups on the Pro basses. If they were true (I have never played one), I can understand it at that price point. I would not want to spend that much to then replace the pickups.

matryx81, thanks for the reply! I took advantage of Guitar Center's President's Day sale and ordered an American Professional Tele in Butterscotch Blonde. It must have been one of the last ones they had because that color is no longer an option on their website.

I suspect the II replaces the original line.

yeah...whenever fender changes their series, it's a really good time to get a good deal on a really good guitar just because it's consider an older series

Apparently, they had the very last Butterscotch Blonde American Professional Telecaster in the GC system. The only problem was that it's a "scratch and dent"....some minor cosmetic damage aka "floor model". The nice young lady, Victoria, said that I could get it at a reduced price. I declined her offer. I just didn't need one that bad to accept less than brand new and perfect. Oh well....

That is what spooks me out about trying one of those basses. The new finishes look fantastic, but I do not want to spend what they are asking only to change the pickup.
I realize I may not, but if this is a real possibility that is a con on this series.

The one Fender American I loved the sound of was my Fender American Special.

My wife bought me a 2011 Oly White Fender American Special the first year they came out and I absolutely loved it. Regretted ever selling it to pay a bill. Wanted another but wasn't willing to pay $1100-$1200 for one used. I paid $800 new for it in 2011
