I've always loved the look of the D'Angelico guitar headstock. The name goes way back to 1932 and was considered a top brand. Today, they are made overseas, so costs are down and their line is affordable. I saw the Boardwalk model at GC the other day and I liked it. At $800, it was affordable, but I didn't like the turquoise colour much. So I found one on Reverb that I might go for. Anybody have any experience with the brand these days? reverb.com/item/38650107-d-angelico-premier-dc-boardwalk-2019-vntage-sunburst-mint-condition

That's really nice for the price and the P90's look great on it.
Is the finish nitrocellulose? It just says gloss for the finish in specs.
edit to add: never played one but always liked the looks.

I tried one of these when they first came out a few years ago. I thought the build quality was excellent; the pickups (humbuckers, brand...?) were lackluster. They were fine, but didn't really do it for me.
I ended up sending the guitar back. The model with the P-90's does look tempting though, especially for that price.

My buddy has one and it's a really gorgeous guitar and seemed to me to be well built. I have not played it and, in reality, I don't think he's ever played it either. I've always loved the look of their guitars.

I’ve noticed that, in general, about low to mid-priced guitars lately. They tell you nothing about their pickups. I get it with the low-priced models. But if I’m spending a grand on a guitar, I need to know more. $.02

I was looking at the Premier (entry level) models in the D'Angelico line, the guitars linked in my earlier posts. Then I realized that I was probably not going to be really happy with those. I wanted more bling - the cool headstock and the stair-step tailpiece. So I looked on ebay and Reverb, found a couple prospects in the Excel series. But then a Google search showed Amazon selling the latest version of the DC model for only a few more bucks than the used ones I was looking at. This is it: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C3NSB46/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1After much should I/no, I shouldn't, I saw the meme of the Dos Equis guy saying "buy the damn guitar". So, I pulled the trigger on the Amazon listing. The best part of dealing with Amazon is their return policy. If I don't like the guitar, I request a RA and they pay for return shipping too. Most online dealers ship for free, but if you return the instrument, you ship it back on your own dime, then you get a refund minus the original shipping charges. I should have delivery by tomorrow! Stay tuned.

I'm pretty sure that's the exact model I originally tried. Same blonde finish as well. Look forward to your review.

The latest model, which I just ordered, has Seymour Duncans w/coil tapping. We'll see how they sound very soon.

Report back please!
I haven't played the new archtops/electrics, but I have played a few of the acoustics. Not bad for their price point, but kinda forgettable. Sort of fits in with that high end Chinese world like Blueridge and a bunch of others I can't remember off the top of my head.
That price is awfully good, though. The real question to me would be how well they stack up to an Eastman, a similar market share but also more money.

I think they look great and have heard good things. I think it's good the family (I guess) is making some money. What doesn't seem natural is that the name D'Angelico known for the highest caliber of perfection is now tied to affordable, albeit good guitars.

There are endless low cost repops of vintage guitars, more often than not their quality is commensurate with their price, you simply can't get quality on a low cost guitar.
If a model strikes a good compromise overall that is the most one could & should expect.
In the end don't ever be sucked in or fooled by the "hey, it looks exactly like a"... because it's NOT "exactly like a".....
Nuff said.

The current D’angelico brand is just a name; it has no connection to the NYC brand from years past.
I’ve played a few. For fit and finish, they are comparable to the Dean imports: there are good ones and there are bad ones. They may be made in the same factory.

That’s how I got this one.
It’s a Deluxe 175 LE. They only made 50 of each color righty and no lefties. Adirondack Guitars commissioned some lefties. This was their last one. They’d dropped the price a couple times and yesterday they sent me an offer (since this was on my watch list). I sent them back an even lower offer and they took it.

FWIW, this guitar was made in Korea. Korea has been known to produce some very nice guitars. Of the Asian manufacturers, Japan is the top, followed by Korea, China and Indonesia.
