I just ordered a JOYO Tauren, for $48 with free shipping, it was a no-brainer!
What are you guys using?

I still like the EHX Soul Food. I think that's supposed to be a Klon type pedal.

I’ve had a Klon KTR for six years and truly love it.

Interesting video, thanks for the link!
They are all definitely in the same ballpark, I think in a band situation in the mix you'd have a hard time telling the difference.
To my ears, for some reason I was drawn to the light blue box on the far right. I think its the Rock Your Repaired Amp Klone.
I also like it when the gain is cranked, they all started sounding really good to my ears when they start getting pushed.
Very cool!

To push a loud (or "pushed") amp even more? Absolutely, but I'll paraphrase Josh from JHS, he says he laughs when he sees people use it at a clean boost because they're really not using the diode in the gain pot, which is supposedly the point of the pedal. It doesn't become "active" for lack of a better word, until it's cranked a bit past about 8-9 o'clock. So I guess there's those out there that don't. *shrugs*

I’ve had an EHX Soul Food on my gigging board for a couple of years. Some people love them and some evidently hate them, but it’s good enough for me :-)

I have a Soul Food and a Klon KTR on my board. I like the KTR for cleaner boosted tones and the Soul Food for dirtier tones. Switch both on for edgier stuff. I also have a clean boost and all 3 through one of my Voxes gets me to Queen territory.
The Soul Food is a real bargain and a solid performer. So is the KTR but kind of pricey.

The ARC Effects Klone is excellent; I have the V2. It sounds just as good as the original, and has a bass boost switch that, when off, is faithful to the original, but when on, adds a great fullness to the tone. Fantastic pedal.

I have a Klon non-horsie silver and a KTR. I've compared them to my Keeley Oxblood and find the Klons are better at pulling off a transparent boost. With a volume setting of 3 the Klons make my '66 PR sound like it's on 5-6 with the obvious advantage of gain and volume control. It is as transparent as glass to me. If the gain is set much higher than half-way on the Klon and KTR the tone starts to lose transparency and the overdriven tones aren't all that good to my ears. At that point I switch to the Oxblood which is much more versatile and has some really sweet overdriven tones.

I've had a Soul Food since they appeared, or close to. I've never got what the appeal is so maybe I'm not a Klon sought of dude. I realy need to spend a lot of time with it. It maybe is I'm a bedroom player and never have an opportunity to crank my amps.

Of interest. I have an MI Super Blues Pro and this video demonstrates similarties with a Klon: For some reason I prefer the Super Blues Pro over the Soul Food.

I’ve got an MI Audio Blues Pro that I like a lot. I don’t know where (or if) it falls in this discussion.

I bought an Alchemy Audio modded Soul Food and found it meh so I sold it. I hear raves about the J. Rockett 'Archer Ikon' (the gold one not the silver 'Ikon.') Haven't tried one yet but I'm thinking about it... Wampler Tumnus & Tumnus Deluxe also have a lot of passionate devotees. Haven't tried those either. Anyone?

what I find about some of these comparison videos is that some pedals sound sooo close. What I did realize is that when you try them in person, they feel different, like your playing experience. I noticed this with a friend's Tumnus and did have a different feel. My kinda goto is listening to playbacks of a session and how that sounds with the band. I'm always surprised at what I thought sounded good/bad and how it sounded overall.

The MI Audio Blues Pro can be dialled in to sound like a Klon Centaur so it can be used for the same applications. It adds a whole bunch of versatility on top off that so may be worthy of consideration for those who would like such a pedal at a good price without selling a kidney.

I watched this a few days ago:
I really like their various videos, but honestly I didn't watch this one to the end because it seemed like they were comparing a bunch of pedals that sounded the same, and that really didn't do anything.

Yes, I was just thinking about the Anderton's video. The did Tube screamers too. Of course the also state that they are all so close together that's it very difficult to say one way or another. They all do a great job. Pick the one your budget and eyes likes best.

I get the impression that (aside from the fact that tone is actually subjective) one pedal of any sort isn't really "better" than any other to most people. And by "people" I mean "audience" or "listener". I think most pedal selections are REALLY about what makes the guitar player feel better about playing...or getting a particular sound. This goes for guitar sounds, too.
Face it - do you really think there's any average (non-guitar player) out there that is watching a cover band play "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and think to themselves, "you know, that really doesn't sound like a Flying-V...and is the lead guitarist actually playing a G&L Strat???"

The Wampler Tumnus "won". The only Klon clones I ever had are the Soul Food and Tumnus. Tumnus stayed on the board.

I had a Mythical Overdrive that is supposed to be a Klon klone. Never played a real Klon, but the Mythical was a good sounding pedal.

I ordered a Klon Centaur direct from the builder (Callahan?) back in th mid 90's after reading an article about Jeff Beck, who stated he used one. They were about $250 which was a lot for an overdrive pedal back then. Akin to buying a homemade pedal from some unknown guy making them in their apartment now for around $400-500. I recall I was taking quite a gamble. You had to call the builder to order it. I remember telling the guy that I played a Strat through a BF Super Reverb and he assured me the pedal would work great.
So, I've had the pedal for 25 years now. I really like the way it works with Fender BF circuit amps like the Deluxe Reverb, Vibrolux Reverb and the SR. I'm one of those people that use it as a boost and find myself running it all the time. It adds a fat bloom to my sound that is very addictive. So, I've kept it. I haven't found a pedal that mimics it exactly but have never gone out looking for one, either.
I consider it the same as a guitar or amp you've had 40-50 years. I have a couple. The good stuff that works for you, you don't want to let it go.
I also bought a Klon KTR back when they were easy to get. It's close but has a bit of fizzy sound to my ears that the original doesn't.

I had a Tumnus Deluxe but never bonded with the midrange sweep. Maybe it was my Maz 18 that seems to favor more neutral pedals.
