Been thinking about one of these with the humbucker in the neck.. I like all of the features: tuners, neck shape, frets, bridge/saddles..but not a big fan of push/pull pots..
I'd rather it was a 5 way switch..
I'm wondering if anyone has taken the plunge and how they liked it

The Performer and Player series are easily among the best production models Fender has turned out since the American Standard series 20 years ago. They are really nice.
Just do it!

70 views and still no response.. Waaaaaaa! I think everyone has been waiting for your review, so we'll know how they are. Ok, everyone except Peegoo. When it comes to quality, my Ultra Jazzmaster is one of the nicest guitars I've ever owned. The features on it are what sold me. Fender is still putting out some great guitars.

thanks for chiming in my brother's....I was getting lonely and thought I needed to take a shower!.... I haven't purchased a new guitar since 1995.. they've all been either used or put together from parts...but I'm jonesing for one these..vintage blond with a maple neck. as I mentioned not crazy about push/pull pots..I experimented with it once and found it to be cumbersome......but I could overlook it at least this one time! I had a 1997 American Series California tele blond, hum in neck with vintage tuners..nice neck..and sold it like a fool...I've been watching Reverb and Ebay for one the last year or so and only one came up....it was gone before I had a chance to bid.. I reckon I could disconnect the push/pull and install a 5 way if it came down to it...

Just got a Sonic blue one this week. It's an incredibly built guitar. The gig bag they give you ,for the price, is seriously hideous !

Past experience has left me with very low expectations for Fender humbuckers. I have a similar MIM version from the 90s, has the 5-way switching. It now has a Firebird-style mini at the neck which I love.
Pups can always be changed and you could put a 5-way in there easily enough...

I tend to prefer Fender pickups.
I have a American 2016 Telecaster "Professional series" (I think that's what they called it) has a Bridge Humbucker with a split feature. Adjustable pole pieces.. Thick bottom plate. Sounds killer, even in its split mode the single.
Mainly use it for Rock...
I'd like to check out some of those Shaw Buckers. I've read they are well balanced.
My issue (and it's not really a issue) is with Fenders, The Fret dressing is almost none existent. Last two two Fenders I bought (both in 2016, both American) I had to do a fret dressing job on both... Not really an issue, takes a couple of hours.. then they played like butter.
Best advise I ever got was to learn how to do your own guitar setup/maintenance. Intonation, fret leveling, crowning, etc etc.
If the truss works, I can pretty much make a entry level Mexican Telecaster play like a top shelf custom shop.

Intonation, fret leveling, crowning, etc etc. you got that right!.....with help from the more experienced folks here and YT, I do just about everything except fret replacement....I've got a great guy I use for Fret jobs..... I imagine its pretty common for guitars to leave the factory that still need some tweaking to play/feel right....mass production aint perfect!

Sorry it took me so long Rob. I got Rosewood,no humbucker. So far I'm very pleased, besides the gig bag.

as each day passes i get closer and closer to pulling that trigger!....if I could find a used Calf. series tele 97 or 98 vintage whit with HB Id get one of them over the Performer...but they don't show up very often..I had one and like an idiot I sold it...(sigh)

A pal of mine came over yesterday to play for a few hours, and he brought along a new MIA Professional Tele Deluxe. It has a pair of the WRHB pickups and a CBS headstock on the maple neck. He asked me to check the setup because when he capo'd it the G and B strings were sharp. He had also swapped in a set of 10s to replace the stock 9s that were on it. Other than having to tweak two nut slots, string height, and intonation, the guitar is a *peach*. It has action as low as I've seen on a stock guitar and it plays cleanly, which means the factory attention to detail on the frets was exceptional. And it sounds fantastic. This:
