There is a slick little device called a fumoto. Probably the brand name. Look it up on Amazon. It screws into your oil drain plug hole. Take a cut off piece of flex hose the proper length to go into your pan. Flip the valve ba da boom. Not a drop of oil anywhere but the pan. Not sure all Subaru’s have the oil filter on top but my wife’s ascent does. Takes 10 minutes to change oil on it.
I’ve had a lift for 20 years and don’t even have to use it on that car. Use my aluminum 3 ton Jack. Jack stands either side.

Many years ago my wife had a new Infiniti G-35. Belly pan I swear had 10 or 12 10mm bolts holding it up. Super pain to drop. After a couple years I had the oil changed at a quick lube place. About a month later I notice the front of the belly pan almost touching the ground in front. They had left every other one out. Idiots. Months later I said I’ll do it one more time. That time happened to be the last time I changed because I had sold the car to my brother who lives 500 miles away. He called me about a week after he had the car and said he had driven into his garage gotten out and oil was everywhere. Dumb ass me had only hand tightened it and luckily it had fallen out in his garage onto the belly pan. Lucky day. We sold it to him at 175,000 miles because my wife thought it had too many miles. It now has 302,000.

My kid, on the other hand, is a whole different animal than me. He just finished putting a stroked LS3 engine with Tremec 5 spd in his ‘84 Vette along with Wilwood brakes, coil-overs, beefed driveshaft, and a lot if other goodies. He’s owned the car for around 30 years and it spent the last 20 completely disassembled. He spun a bearing in the engine after installing it (cranking on it a bit too hard) so pulled it to do the balanced stroker crank assembly. He was at 650 hp before the increased stroke so it will be interesting to see what the dyno says.

I wish there was a crate option for old Porsches. I’d do it on the 356 in a heart beat. They do make some killer VW type 1’s that can relatively easily be put in with some engine tin trimming. The latest thing now is a Tesla motor. That would be fun in a 1900 lb car.
