Met up with a mate this afternoon. We took a 20 minute train journey. Watched some football - soccer! Celtic won.
Always looking for live music, and knowing a couple of guys who were booked to play, we were privileged to hear Graham Lyle appear and play slide and sing.
I’m not sure what ‘Gallagher and Lyle’ means to the general public.
He made my Saturday.

Is that the one in Edinburgh at the castle? The production and performances are *incredible*.

Some of y'all right here on Moe's, who used to dispense wisdom on the FDP, have turned me onto some great musicians I never would have experienced.
In the for-real-accidental category, I have to include those teen virtuoso's, who sit on their beds and show me how to play something, when I request a cover of a song. Just wait until they're old enough to shave and maybe get a job. Then I'll have my revenge.

After an FDP Jam many moons ago, Seth Rosen said of SheRock, "If life was fair, she would be famous." Anyone who had ever heard her would agree.

"Stumbling Across Great Musicians By Accident."
I once got tripped up when my feet became entangled in Tyrone Shuz's guitar cable.

Nice one Les Tele. I "stumbled across" Frankie Miller at T in the Park festival in the '90's (?). He wasn't even supposed to be on the bill, and as I remember, Brian Robertson (Thin Lizzy) was on guitar, and Simon Kirke (Free/ Bad Co) was on drums. He was great, and had the whole crowd in tears when he sang Caledonia.
Also, I was walking into Austin city centre from South Austin one afternoon during SXSW, when I heard a band playing in a little out of the way bar. I decided to investigate, and I literally couldn't believe it when I walked through the door, and not only was one of my favourite bands, Marah playing, (they were also not on the festival bill) but one of my mates from home was there. I still think it may have been a dream. ;-)
Also saw Tift Merritt playing an impromptu outdoor gig on South Congress during SXSW. She was fantastic, as always. ;-)

I took some out of town friends to Robert's Western World, knowing that Don Kelly always has a good guitar player, and caught J.D. Simo for the first time. The boy can play shredding on Working Man's Blues

ProzaKc, I like him better as a side man than doing his own stuff, as he gets a bit too metal for me, but the licks just roll right out of the guy.

He does tend to crank it up. Great player though

I don't recall how I stumbles across Jess Lewis but I think she showed great promise then and now. I did see a video of her in a live performance and she looked to be suffering from stage fright but...

I've never accidentally stumbled upon a well known player, but one of the best guitarists I ever heard was playing solo jazz gig in some unimpressive bar in Joliet IL years ago. When we came in he said "we have some more guitar players here now". During the next break, I asked how he knew. He said only another player would stop to check out what he's doing before getting a seat or a drink.
