You guys want to talk dirty? I went back for a barium enema. The doctor asked me about the colonoscopy. I said I really don't remember too much. He said you'll remember this. I remember. Today the nurse or tech called to ask a bunch of questions. I asked her how often I’m to drink that stuff...on the stuff itself it says every ten minutes. The paperwork the doctor gave me it says every 20 minutes. She replied, I’d go with what the doctor said, and if you are concerned about it, split the difference. It doesn’t matter, it’ll make you poop! No barium enema for me, thanks just the same. And no, I don’t want to be awake. That would probably make me faint right there...or puke. Ok then!

If you haven't searched the cologuard instruction video on the youtubes, you owe it to yourself to do so.

I had one recently, drinking that stuff?! With all the technology we have today, it's hard to believe they can't come up with a better "solution." Holding your nose while drinking it doesn't help, not at all.
Good luck Ryder! I hope they figure out what's wrong.

Capsule Endoscopy has been around for many years now. I think I first heard about it when my mom had it done well over 10 years ago. Swallow a small capsule and it snaps thousands of pics along the way to the poop chute. Seems to me a comprehensive study of the entire tract, especially the more enigmatic small bowel, would be the best method.

Had mine on the 7th. Stayed in hotel the night before so no 2 hour drive in the morning of. First ColinUpski but the prep was worse than the procedure. Doc says not again for 10 years. Happy and yes you have some great farts afterwards, but having just crapped out for twenty hours, never trust a fart.

This place is turning into Heaven's Waiting Room (carried over from the FDP).
We've become those old farts talking about their health all the time. I swore I'd never be that guy sitting on a bench in Miami talking about my sciatica...

Me! Dang, ten years sure went by fast. Prep is Wednesday, colonoscopy on Thursday. Waiting for the call for the time of this exploration! Anyone on deck? I had 2 within a year and 1/2 as I had to change Specialists because the first one couldn't find what was wrong with my. I went to a specialist who my then 92 year old dad said he found his problem when others could not. Ran a multitude of tests before determining my Gallbladder needed to be removed. I do not mind the Colonoscopy. It is the prep I hate

Also, my wife and I said when in our 20's and 30's "if we ever get caught sitting a a table by a window with Binoculars looking at birds, Just commit suicide" . About 5 years ago I reminded her of what we once said as we were sitting at a table by a big window watching birds, squirrels and rabits. We both burst out laughing LOL

Lower GI series. I had one about 12 years ago. The closest thing to being a lab rat (complete with a tail) in an alien abduction. No sedation because the doctor gives instructions to move around on the table into various poses while they keep pumping you up like a parade balloon character. The colonoscopy I had a couple of years ago was a holiday compared to that. The anesthesia was the best sleep I’ve had in years and it was only an hour and a half. AND they gave me pictures to put on the fridge.

Just had a Colonoscopy in December. It was 5 years after the 1st one. Removed 3 polyps, 2 precancerous. Can’t do that mail order!

In my mid 20's I had a sigmoidoscopy. Awake, buns up, my Korean doctor admonishing me "Don't fight it! Don't fight it!!" while nurse Ratched assisted.
An unpleasant affair.

I'm on the "mailing list" and everything has been ok. However, my grandfather had colon cancer, so maybe I should think about a colonoscopy... Damn!

Wow, I sure asked a “loaded” question with this thread.
ok, now I know I’m old!
I agree, the prep is the very worst.
walshb, I said to my doctor, with all of the technology we have, and we still have to drink this stuff? All he said was, sorry. I said the the same thing to my dentist right before he stuck a long needle into my mouth.
These things just seem wrong!

I had high hopes for the "poop in a box" method. Unfortunately it showed what turned out to be a false positive, requiring me to go in for the full-blown roto. Turned out clean.

I have divurticulosis. I had my first colonoscopy after a nasty bought of diverticulitis....complete with perforated bowel and 3 days in the hospital. That was in 2011, so I'm due again next year.
Barium enema....been there. That was worse than the colonoscopy, for which I was either totally out for or they gave me that drug that makes you not remember. I went in, they said I may feel a little sleepy, then I woke up in a recovery room. I'm fine with that.
The worst part of the colonoscopy for me was not the prep. I had seriously nasty abdominal pain that night. I was up all night writhing in pain. It sucked royally. For the procedure, they blow you up like a balloon. I was told sometimes it's hard to pass that gas.

I have a family history of colon cancer and the last one I did the doc removed 2 polyps so I'm doing them every 3 years. Next one will be in June.
My rectum doctor uses Propofol which is great stuff. No grogginess when I wake up.
Prep isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. Just up all night running to the bathroom every few minutes. Thank God for iPads.

I'm suspicious that the occult blood test could be anything as good as the direct view that the traditional colonoscope gives.
I did the latter in December, clean as a whistle. The Dr. was a hoot too.

I guess I was in the 7%. Sent poo 4 (0r 5?) years ago, and it came back clean. Did the proper colonoscopy in November since my dad had a lot of polyps removed at this same age. Turns out I have cancer. Thankfully it has not spread. Completed chemo and radiation Jan. 10th, and will have surgery March 16th. Docs expect 100% clean after a second batch of chemo. So if you're thinking of delaying anything, don't wait!! I would say the prep WAS the worst (my digestive tract shut down while trying to complete the second batch of liquid, and I threw it up all over the kitchen counter!!!), but getting that bad news after the procedure was indeed worse!!!!

I’m getting one due to stomach and bowel problems. The doc is sure I have post viral irritable bowel syndrome, but wants to make sure. I’m NOT looking forward to the drink, if that’s what you can call it! Thats tomorrow, the big day, Thursday! Praying for a clean (is that correct for messing with your behind?) result.

Best to you Quarternote. Your story is an example of going with the "real" test.

Good grief! I’m done with the ducolax pills, the bottle of something nitrate, and my 5 glasses of liquid snot. It’s almost 11 pm and I’m not done with the toilet.
Next I get up at 4 am and drink another 4 glasses of that stuff.
I can’t wait til this is over tomorrow morning so I can eat and go to sleep!

It’s almost 4:30 am and I’ve downed 2 glasses of this stuff. Two more to go...actually I think there’s a lot more to go...out.
Please God, end this nightmare!

Praying for good results for both Ryder and mroulier. Reading the latter's post reminded me that it was my oncologist that suggested a real colonoscopy after my PCP suggested Cologuard. I might have posted about this earlier.

You need to have one colonoscopy as a baseline. I was fortunate that I had one in 2009 and some pre-cancerous polyps were removed. If these had not been discovered I'd probably be dead by now. I've been clear ever since.

I've been clear ever since. That’s great henrycat! Im glad mine is over. The doctor said he took out one tiny polyp, and two biopsies. The results take a week but he doesn’t expect anything bad. He’s still saying I have post viral irritable bowel syndrome. It starts with a virus and keeps going to morph into IRS. Last week he started me on anti spasmodic medicine to help the bowels settle down. He said it could take quite a while to go away or it could never go away. I’m praying for the first one!
