Glad the worst is over Ryder. I'm curious what anti spasmodic you were prescribed. Long time spastic colon>IBS>Diverticulitis sufferer here. Never heard of post viral IBS.

Ah yes, also known as Bentyl. Tried it in 2013 and don't recall any benefits.
Love the auto correct, lol. Think I'll go with August as a future handle, pronounced "Ow-goost".

As for the medicine, my doctor did not guarantee it would help. Probably the only thing he could try.

Auf, my doctor said it starts with a virus which it felt like I had back in November, but it never went away. He said, it turns into the IBS and is difficult for it to go away and sometimes it doesn’t. My Primary Care doctor reminded me old age isn’t for sissies. I replied, gee thanks, meet the sissy!

I went back for a barium enema. The doctor asked me about the colonoscopy. I said I really don't remember too much. He said you'll remember this. I remember. I had one of those once. Felt like somebody had filled my entire lower intestine with birdshot and then told me, "OK, now you hold that in there til I tell you to let go". Then they made me move around on the table til I was in what they deemed to be "the right position". Not an altogether pleasant sensation which I would particularly care to repeat anytime soon.

"Who is up for a good ole Colonoscopy?"
Having had five of these thus far, I prefer to be down for one.
And out.
Cheers, Barry M. Ennema.

The ole propofol does the trick.
Personally, I like Versed better.

The problem with the standard mail-in poo tests (which I use as well) is that they are hit-or-miss. By that I mean that not all cancerous growths in the colon bleed, and those that do, don't necessarily bleed with every bowel movement. Maybe you test on a "bleeder day" and maybe you don't.
The more advanced test in-home procedure requires three samples taken from three successive bowel movements.

A good friend of mine just had a 12" section of his large intestine removed after cancer was discovered during a colonoscopy and subsequent tests. And he had had a melanoma removed from his back just a couple of months ago.
He's doing his best to stay on top of things. Worrisome, though.

Back in 2004 (I was 43) I had the right half of my large intestine removed because I had a tumor the size of a golf ball in there under my liver.
I was partially awake for the colonoscopy when the doc first saw it. He said, "whoa...look at this," to the attending anesthesiologist, who stepped around to peer at the monitor. I knew right then I was in for some exciting medical adventures.
They took a big bite to make sure they got all the margins. They gave me the choice, and after doing a bunch of research on post-surgery prognoses I'm glad I decided to go with a 'slash and burn' approach, rather than be conservative and "see what happens..." Sixteen years later and I'm still good.
As you've heard, the prep is way worse than the actual procedure. Go get it done if you're over 50 and have never had one.
John Andretti just died of colon cancer after being diagnosed two years ago.

So... I turned 50 last year. Everyone kept teasing me about the dreaded colonoscopy. I just went to my Dr for my physical. Dr recommended colonoscopy. I see this thread about it. Now John Andretti dies from colon cancer. John Andretti spent the twilight of his life advocating the importance of people getting regular colonoscopies in time to catch colon cancer in its early stages. Coincidence? I don't think so. I'm calling for an appointment Monday morning!

The colonoscopy itself is nothing, you’ll be asleep. Knock one out of the park!

#1 scheduled for the 17th, prep kit on the way today...can't wait. Already put it off for 2 years, 52 now. Heard a few horror stories of people delaying too long, scared me into finally calling earlier this week.

No, I now get the VA equivalent of the ColoGard. My wife just had her last colonoscopy last month. She has aged out of it.

My ex was a medical lab tech. The doctors called them the pee and poop girls. Oh Lord! On the table in the operating room, the nurse says, ok now, I want you to roll over on your left side and stick your butt out. Before I did it I said, should I have taken my underwear off first? I imagine these poop girls have heard it all. I wasn’t flirting, really! No chuckle, no comment, nada. The anesthesiologist, standing there said, if you didn’t we would have to do it for you. And, have a nice nap.
