Had the chance to see this show this weekend. What a great show this was-a real treat to see two players of this caliber. G.E. Smith and Jim Weider. Very interesting song choices-Roy Buchanan, Traffic, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ventures. G.E. is quite the player, but Jim Weider was outstanding. Never saw him previously and didn't really know him or his music. You can tell Buchanan is an influence for sure-he mentioned that he saw him at this same venue probably 30-40 years ago.

Stumbled across Jim Weider some years ago on YouTube. Great player!

I'll bet that was a great show.
Weider is a monster player. Smith can play pretty much anything and knows more songs off the top of his head than 20 guitar players combined.

G.E. Smith is awesome. Check him out on YouTube when he gets to play Mike Bloomfield's Telecaster.

As Tele players go, two of the best I've seen were Redd Volkart and Bill Kirchen. Oh and Keef of course, but that's a different Tele thing. ;-)

Last saw him live with his own band at a big car show in Half Moon Bay a few years ago. He still had it.
When I used to see him with Cody, he ran his Tele through a Tweed Bassman. At the car show, he was using a Talos and, though I'm not sure which model. At some point, I think they were making a Kirchen Signature model, so maybe it was that one.

Last time I saw Kirchen he had Redd Volkaert with him and Cindy Cashdollar on lap steel. HOLY cats, what a band.
Bill pulled out a trombone and played a solo...seriously. And he was GOOD!

Wasn't Jim Weider the guitarist who took Robertson's place in the Band before they called it quits. If so I saw him with the Band one night before Richard Manuel died.

The singer/ guitarist in my last original band used to play a Tele through a Tweed Bassman. Insanely loud, but what a glorious sound ;-)

He played trombone on a couple numbers with Cody as well, so that must've been his instrument in high school band!
If memory serves, the Cody's fiddle player, Andy Stein, doubled on sax.

Weider used to do instructional videos way back when that was a thing. Good player. Of all the Telecaster players I have listened to since the 1960s the best, for me, is Greg Koch. He brought its capabilities into the new century and has only improved since.
